Feel a bit emotional this morning. Trying to suppress anger & hate for the scum that thinks its ok to take a free hit at players, for PV in the ticket shenanigans, the vitriolic build-up. Feels like a Gillingham style rivalry just been created.
Couldnt get a ticket, but it was great to hear Town fans loud & proud almost all game (nice rendition of Sit Down in Your Empty Seats).
Defeat I can take - it wasnt the worst performance of the seaon - Barrow and Tranmere were awful. Just didnt do enough onthe night & couldnt handle the initial 20 mins onslaught. Feel sorry for Iandolo, MoM for me, tired to make something happen, making the most of his ability. Its been well documented our lack of bite, too many "nice" footballers. Looking at the playoffs in general, the refs bottled every big decision (Huddefield - Toffolo pen; Northampton pen & Mansfield should have had atleast 1 red) and given no protection to players - probably a directive to let the game flow. So benefitting the more phyiscal sides ie PV. Cant blame Garner for changing tactics and going long to avoid the PV press and midfield assault by their cloggers, but we're not really geared up for long ball to Davison (Davison control and no one running off him). PV tactics & lack of ref protection got to us before the game even started.
Losing on Pens is Swindon (1 from 8 shootouts?). Atleast it wasnt as bad as Barnet.

Or Cambridge…

Maybe the responsibility should be taken away from the clubs in terms of policing and the EFL should fork out for necessary protection. EFL supposedly takes 50% from these games so they're hardly scraping the barrell.

Maybe they should close all football stadiums. Demolish / sell them all off. Have every club invest in a state of the art 4G (or whatever G we are up to now) pitch (think Swindome) and have everyone buy tickets / season streams and watch remotely.
Zero crowd trouble then.

Oh and if I didn't already hate "glad all over" as goal music as it was, I definitely never want to hear it again after last night.

Not sure what the answer is, but something needs to be done to protect players & officials from scenes like last night.

It won’t happen but maybe ban all fans from the guilty teams from the playoff final.
Alternatively, kick Out the guilty team, so in this case Mansfield get promoted without having to play.

It has to have some tangible impact on the club, otherwise they will continue to not give a toss, and claim they did everything they could.

Obvious issue is you could have moles in the crowd. Can you imagine we won a play off semi final and 100 or so Oxford fans ran on the pitch disguised as Swindon supporters.

You can't stop thousands of people invading a pitch. What you can do is ensure that the opposition fans are segregated by a police line and safe. See Walsall for non useless policing.

Although being able to tell the difference between two very clearly right and wrong methods makes you a keyboard warrior, apparently.

Sticking up for ex-colleagues and trying to put your experience across isn't a crime ex-officer.

There is always going to be a bit of "them and us".

Personally think some points were very valid from both sides of the argument.

Really? Because I'm not sure I heard much of an argument, opinion or retort other than "I'm at ex copper and you're not, so you wouldn't understand why these police elected not to protect people and instead video the victims"

There was no argument. Its just another copper sticking up for coppers being clearly wrong, just like we see more and more of over the last few years.

Blue lives matter and all that.

Didn't he make the point that its very difficult to stop 1000(s) of fans getting on the pitch without unrealistic police numbers?

Because I agree with that. it is.

I also agree that more should have been done to control them when on the pitch. A la Walsall.

Stopping 1000s get on the pitch was never the argument. I even said that's impossible myself.

The argument was choosing to stand watching women and kids get pelted because you think it's more important to get some juicy footage so you can prosecute the victim for reacting.

Which is what happened and its nothing short of cowardly. I don't give a fuck if I've done the job before or not, they failed at the most basic expectations the public have of them in that situation. Simple as that.

They should have had stewards and or police around the Swindon / Port Vale players during the shootout. That way, whoever loses can get quickly escorted off. When it goes down to sudden death you have enough time as stewards to calculate if they score/miss we need to protect that team. Not fucking hard is it.

As for fans, the way they handled it at Walsall was perfect. Keep them away from opposition fans by forming a line a good distance from them. It's a tough job, but last nights "protection" for both Swindon players and fans was pathetic. Swindon fans didn't help themselves by throwing bottles back at Vale fans though.
