Well worth the money, even if they're closer to £500 at the moment.

Gaggia's are a fine looking machine. The Alfa Romeo of the coffee machine!!

They are! With the coffee beans held in a clear container on top of the machine, makes the coffee taste even better  Grin

Is that a compliment? Or looks lovely but the electrics are shit and it will rust.

Santa bought the other half a Nespresso Mini last Christmas and its been great so far, one warning a lot of the non Nespresso pods which claim to work are crap, especially those with plastic rather tha metal casings.

I did wonder whether the Alfa comment might be picked up on. By the sounds of it from Gnasher's feedback and the fact that fancy London Coffee shops tend to favour a Gaggia I'd say unlike the Italian car, these are built to last!

I got a Delonghi bean to cup one for about £250. I would have bought one of those pod ones but couldn't bare all the waste, or are the pods recyclable now anyway?

For anyone who LOVES coffee, go to https://hasbean.co.uk better than anything you'll get in a supermarket. And always great seeing that the beans were roasted a day or so before being received.

I agree . we are on our second, first lasted years with daily use.

But disadvantages are that they are obviously a magnitude more cash, are usually bigger and do require cleaning and descaling.

the cleaning/descale isn't as bad as you'd think

Likewise, although mine must be 10+ years old. As someone who likes to have a go at fixing stuff I've kept it going all these years, but think the grinder is now incapable of gridning it fine enough for a decent espresso. Every coffee (now on the finest grind setting) just tastes like shitty french press coffee.

I'm going to get a new one soon, although a new grinder is £70, which is tempting.

The wife is a proper coffee connoisseur so for her last birthday I bought her one of these.

https://ao.com/product/vcf117-breville-allinone-espresso-coffee-machine-black-77038-66.aspx

Its just under £200 but it makes fantastic coffee of any kind, it has a filter coffee hopper, a proper espresso attachment, its also compatible with Nescafe Dolce Gusto Capsules and a milk steamer for your lattes or other hot milk drinks.

It uses a thermal coffee jug so when its poured it doesnt use any electric to keep the coffee hot and it will stay very hot for about 2 hours in my experience with no power used after the initial brew.

It makes very very good coffee of all types.

We use PACT Coffee for ours. It looks pretty similar to that. As you say the beans are so much better than supermarket beans and usually fairtrade and from small farners etc.

Yeah, the one I have uses beans. I hated the plastic waste with the Nespresso.

Ended up with a Tassimo. Bosch Tassimo Vivy cream Coffee Machine in the end mainly because it was one of many that were actually in stock.

Best place to get said pods?
