Thanks, interesting stuff. Pity this has only been picked up up there rather than being publicised by the press in the town and possibly the club even.

Wonder which house on Kent Road he lived at. Sam Allen's already has a Heritage blue plaque.

Good find.

My family plot is literally directly opposite that grave on the other side of the path, my Mums ashes, my Grandfather, Grandmother, Great Aunt and Great Grandfather and Great Grandmother are all buried probably less than 10 yards from there.

I had no idea until I saw that video as the last time I went there was for the interment of my mums ashes 10 years ago and paid little notice of the surrounding stones.

James Munro is not a story I have heard of before either, fascinating.

When he was married at St Marks Church on 15th August 1898 to Helena Jeffries, both of their residence's were Clifton Hotel on Clifton Street.

His death in 1899 was registered in Highworth.

For those who have contributed from this forum towards the restoration of the grave of James Munro a big thankyou. We are working towards that magic figure and with £1000 within sight we would ask all supporters to help in getting it over the line.
This is for the benefit of all supporters to show they care about the history of the club and this person in particular.

Regards

Lovely piece about one of our ex-players & club captain, James Munro.  Regarded as Swindon Town's first ever professional.

James Munro

Taken well before his time.

I'll assume you missed this fred Ardiles, but of course still wonderful reading.

Maybe the mods can merge this onto the fred started by FH just the other day?

He's actually stood next to my great Grandfather in this photo (Bob Menham - big guy back row in the centre with the tash and cap > James Munro - small guy with a big tash) I never knew...
