Yeah, these puns should just fade away.

I see the local councillors have made their feelings known about the closure on the facilities. It’s a travesty that a local leisure facility is closed - where are all the starving kids going to go now.

Not forgetting it was their government that sold it off in the first place.

Whatever.

It was the council not the govt, but yes it was those same councillors so your point still stands.

Discussed at quite some length by Ivo Graham during a monologue on the Now Show on R4 on Friday night, Gregg Wallace eating Kerry Mucklowe also got some mention!

Given away, not sold, if I remember corectly. On the basis of milestones of investment and development being met (they weren't)

As noted previously the model (passing to a charity to run) is working very well in most of the Country, not sure why its gone to shit in Swindon, albeit I imagine the bottom line will be that the Oasis needs a lot of cash spending on it.

I think (not got time to google my own fact checking and it's been a while), it was given to an investment/development company (on the basis of the milestones) who then lease it to the charity,

Yeah I had a load come up on YouTube as a suggestion last week, Sharon Davies and Rebecca Adlington and several others in support of the place.

Grade II listed status for the dome/pool area.

https://www.swindonadvertiser.co.uk/news/19757157.oasis-leisure-centres-iconic-dome-given-grade-ii-listed-status-historic-england/

Much as I agree its iconic, its going to be a mechanics mk 2 isn't it.

"Historic England has added that it will support Swindon Borough Council and the owners to address the condition of the building and find a sustainable future use."

Surely Swindon and the surrounding towns and villages have enough people to warrant spending some cash to bring it back to it's former glory?

Hopefully it doesn't become like the Battersea Power Station and get surrounded by horrible un-affordable glass covered flats and stupidly expensive coffee shops.
