It's what happens when you send a concentrated group of religious crackpots to a Country to claim it. A bit like Australia being rough and ready being no surprise given we sent our petty thieves over there. The USA still has a significant underbelly of hardline Christian folk, many of who have accumulated power, wealth or influence over local communities. Where I live is on the border of that for example - so we have a few that way inclined, and for 80 miles above us is much more Metro style living. 10 miles South of me and it gets odd fast.

Very true. It's why the study of History is such an important and fascinating subject. It's not just a load of old stuff that happened years ago, it tells us how we got to where we're at now (and hopefully we learn from it but that rarely seems to happen) But there must surely be millions of utterly pissed off Republicans (as opposed to MAGA nut jobs) who are totally opposed to everything the current regime is doing and what it stands for...  |
