I tried pretty much everything over the years as neighbours cats crapping in garden seemed a perennial problem and nothing seemed to work (only thing that worked in pots/planters was to put big cobble stones in that they couldn't move, but not practical for a whole garden). We got a dog last year - not cos of cats, but because we had wanted a dog for ages and work/lifestyle change allowed it to happen - and hey presto, not seen the neighbours bastard cat in our garden since. Still see it lurking around the area but never in our garden. Number of dead birds in garden coincidentally gone down as well - who knew?

Best option is to get a Dog. No more cat mess and you get to have a dog.

We have 2 dogs and do not own a cat due to my allergy yet we still suffer a lot from cat poop every day as most happens overnight when the dogs are inside. In theory a great idea in practice a bit less so in the cat deterant stakes! But the bonus point is we have 2 dogs

But the bonus point is we have 2 dogs I wish I had 2 dogs To be honest, there's a huge park behind my house and I normally see cats roaming around there so I don't think they have a need to use people's gardens! We saw a cat on our fence once and the dog scared it off but that's the only instance really!

I fucking hate cats. Serve no purpose whatsoever.
I've always preferred dogs. But I now wish to make a sizeable donation to the Cats Protection League.

I really like cats. Used to not be a fan but that was parent influence growing up. The only time I had to deter them was from certain areas of a garden, like flower beds or sections of lawn. Finely ground black (or white) pepper worked fine about once a week. What was good, the cat(s) stayed away from said areas but still came to have a mooch for a drink, a bit of a feed and some petting.
Any straight bloke who doesn't like stroking pussy needs to have a good look at themselves.
