Dont ask me why but Mrs Audrey fancies going all pikey, getting a camper van with a view to 'doing' Euro 2016 in France.
Looked at the usual VW Campers but, Christ on a bike, they're expensive.
Anyone got any experience of the cheaper end of camper vans. Must sleep 2 plus room for 2 greyhounds.
Lucky heather optional

You could always tarmac a few driveways to pay for it.

No such thing as a cheap one, they don't depreciate much, in fact a good Investment. You could always hire one, normally around 1k + in high season though.

Just get a cheap caravan and fit a towbar to your motor.

Get a decent tent and a couple of train tickets. What we did in 98, best summer ever.

Not bad that one, thanks. Got maximum of £4k but that would have to include the tax/insurance

Been looking at buying a vw transporter for quite a while now. There are bargains about but be prepared to put some miles in and look at plenty before buying. At the minute I can't justify the money and have a caravan anyway so can afford to wait. Transits are another I'd recommend as there's loads of them about. Some cracking conversions are out there.

Best thing I have seen is a transit that someone has chopped out the back end to make it a flat bed, and bolted a caravan on. In Devizes.

Old V dub campers are lovely and all, but they're massively underpowered, especially when you start chucking camping equipment and friends/kids and the wife onboard. The modern transporter conversions are ace, and don't end up struggling up that hill when you get down towards the coast.
Mind you if you're any good with cars, supposedly you can cram a 2l turbodiesel in the back of an old VW camper. I would imagine that's pretty rapid.

I ve got a VW T5 converted, with Poptop roof with bunk ( 2 kids can sleep up there), Fold down rear seats for me a the wife ( If you have got kids make sure the bed is crash tested) Fridge for beer and gas rings for morning brew . VWs are more expensive but the also hold their value better than most, also the 1.9 TDI engine is pretty good, I have seen loads still going strong with high millage. loads of good advice on http://www.vwt4forum.co.uk/
