I wish the football season would hurry up and start, will be nice to read a match day thread again instead of some of the pre menstrual posts on here.  And the tedious ones from Chang, no wonder Sam publicly bitch slapped him...

eventually they will be running the club so need to get their act together. it might come sooner than we may think. All in my opinion of course.

My fear is that the will for a fan based Trust takover just isn't there....times change things that were once cherished become neglected and perish....in Swindon you can see it in things like the Works, the neglect of little bits of remaining architecture like Mechanics and Locarno...previously sound local pubs, like the Welly and George. Changes are forced by the relentless march of global capitalism...and football is very much to the forefront of this process...we may be getting a glimpse of the future, with our Spurs link.

The good news is that despite the shit, we're much better off, than we were a few years ago under the Diamond Mike regime, so don't see us heading out of business just yet.

Agree with this, I think if this lot had taken over from Diamond Mike there would have been a lot less criticism.

Agree with almost all of that.  All I would add is that some change is natural.  For example, pubs like the Welly and the George would, at one time, have been seen as upsetting the natural order of things (and Reg's great great grandfather would have been lamenting that change as much as Reg regrets this one!)  The growth of Swindon and the coalescence of Old Swindon and New Swindon about 150 years ago (?) would have been greeted with horror by some back then...and the George, as it happens, is slap bang in the middle of the area that was developed to cause the two to join up.

But I know that wasn't the point of your post.  Regarding the Trust, John Ward freely accepted that he wasn't able to dedicate the time to the Trust that he would have liked and had been angling for someone based in Swindon to take over his role for some time.  That has happened now and the new chap (who I don't know) seems to have the bit between his teeth.  Next time the club comes up for sale, it could be a different story.

This. So much money to be made in all sorts of areas now if you get it even half right and that will always attract those who are good at being top business people and others who attempt to be good, and then there are the charlatans out to make a quick profit. It has always been the same, but in football terms alone the money to be made now if it is done right far eclipses what was around only ten/fifteen years ago. I do wonder if many trusts would have the necessary blend of people to run multi-million pound business's on a full-time basis as that is what it now requires?

I am sure that there are plenty of people with those talents not currently involved with the Trust, who would gravitate there if there was a real prospect of a Trust-based takeover happening.
