Very disappointed with the "senior" players that maybe should have offered to step up an take that spot kick, fair play to the lad though im sure he will grow as a player because of this.

Players miss penalties. So what. Anyone who blames Storey for that is a complete bellend.
Stephen Darby did alright last time, if they want to take em then you got to let em.

At what age do managers stop wrapping younger players in cotton wool?
Penalties are missed by footballers old and young. It happens.

We were saying on the way back to the station that it was a surprise that Alan Mac didn't take one.
But to be fair if you aren't confident (which he has said was the case), then you really shouldn't be taking one.
From what I have seen on twitter, a few mongs aside, Miles has been quite rightly getting a lot of positive messages from the fans.

I was worried Alan might take one when he was dithering over the coin toss - you could see all the confidence had drained out of him at the mere thought of penalties. (by no means having a go at him, just mean he did the right thing not taking one)

He was dithering because the coin toss didn't let a team chose which end the penalties were taken at and he wanted to check if this was the case.

I saw that when I watched the match back. Is it usual for the decision to be made in advance about which end the penalties are taken? I thought it was part of the coin toss?

Yup. Tough one really, the sun was going down. Do you let the keepers have the sun in their eyes or the attackers?

Refs will almost always choose the end where the home fans are. If both ends were equally busy, I would be tempted go to the away end on the basis of 3 sides of fans v 1, so going the the away end evens things up a little (and is a little bit controversial to boot)
