Whenever I try cheap blades they just won't cut through the stubble cleanly, even when I do use a good gel. I almost end up tugging them out rather than cutting them off........

I tend to trim at just have stubble, if I need to be clean shaven you can't beat a Turkish shave.

Buy a double edged safety razor. I recommend an Edwin Jagger, which is what I use.

They take a few shaves to get used to, but they're closer than any gilette shit and I buy blades off eBay. You get 100 for less than a £10 and they last longer too.

Another thing to do, is try rubbing the razor backwards up your arm about 20 times - works like a strop.

I use King of Shave's Azor- recently switched to the 5-blade (because they don't sell the three anymore), and it's pretty great. I'm using their shaving gel and whilst it's always been good in the past it's leaving me with an itchy face now, as they recently changed the recipe apparently. Will be switching asap.

I like the fact that with the Azor you can see what you're shaving.

I wish these were avaliable in the UK though. Heard it's pretty fucking awesome.

absolutely it's as close as you can get to a proper cut throat wet shave, had one of those last year in a turkish barbers and the clumsy fucker nearly sliced my top lip off!

Disposables do just as good a job IMO. If you're cutting yourself then you're doing it wrong. Shave with the grain and you'll get no tugging which lessens the razor rash afterwards too.

As has been said, a decent shaving soap applied with a proper badger brush helps. Also, shaving after showering when the bristles are softer makes things easier.

Last of all, always clean the razor and dry it after use. Leaving a razor wet and dirty will blunt it so the next time you use it it will rip your face to shreds.

I think I read somewhere that the cheap, one blade disposables do just a job as the mach5 uber-power face slicer blades. I wouldn't know though (but wouldn't be surprised), as I only have to shave once a week, so treat myself to the 'luxury'

Trust me, having ripped the fuck out of my face whilst on holiday using a disposable because I left my Mach at home, I can tell you that is a horse shit lie - it would have been less painful to have waxed my face
