Anyone remember the old Derek & Clive sketch on the end of the world?
'Will this wind be so mighty as to lay low the mountains of the earth?' etc

Someone, somewhere is always predicting the end of the world. This year it's the turn of the Mayans. Last year it was a Christian fundamentalist called Harold Camping who was widely reported as predicting the Rapture, which would take place on October 21st, 2011. Needless to say, it didn't. Here's the best bit from the link: In March 2012 Camping "humbly acknowledged" that he had been mistaken, that his attempt to predict a date was "sinful", and that his critics had been right in pointing to the scriptural text "of that day and hour knoweth no man". He said he is now searching the Bible "even more fervently... not to find dates, but to be more faithful in our understanding.

Anyone foolish enough to try to predict the end of the world is always going to be on a loser. If they are wrong they end up looking a prat. If they are right nobody would be around to boast to about it anyway.

I once had a very short encounter with a bird whose father was a Mayan Mexican and mother from Belize, she looked like an Aztec...mad as a box of frogs and she chucked a pint of water over me, when I told her I wasn't looking for a shag.

But did she chuck a baby off the top of a pyramid?
And why didn't you shag her?

First question...quite possibly Second question...I might have done, all I said was I wasn't looking for a shag, which at that precise time was true. The water dousing, although it was a proper hot summer night, made up my mind.

So does the end of the world progressively sweep through the time zones? Will I be one of the first TEFers to pop my clogs?
