He's only on standby.

Also probably for the best if he stays on standby...recent Engalnd u19 "stars" include Frank Nouble and John Bostock, both finding it difficult to establish themselves as proper players.

Also him remaining on standby, but not actually in the squad, means he'd be available for us.

The game against Finland is on Tuesday 13th November - a date when Town don't currently have a fixture, so he should be fine unless we draw against Macclesfield Town on Saturday, in which case the replay would be that night.

Great week for young Miles as others have said;

23rd: comes on at Crewe and makes a positive impact

27th: starts first professional game at Stevenage, scoring one with his head and having another header brilliantly saved (later reveals he's not scored a header in 9 years of youth team football!)

30th: replaces James Collins in the 75th minute against Villa and has two goals under his belt by the 81st minute! Becomes darling of sell-out crowd.

31st: put on standby for England U'19s after it's revealed that Stuart Pearce was at the county ground for the Villa tie.

Now that Andy Williams is fully fit again and Adam Rooney's loan doesn't expire until the end of the season, what's the best next steps for Storey? My own personal view is that he needs to be playing every week now and he won't get that under Di Canio for a while - especially as we don't have a Reserve team.

Perhaps his 3 goals in 2 games will make him a far more attractive proposition for a League 2 side to take on loan now? Only 10 days ago, you'd have been struggling to find a Conference side willing to take him on. Someone like Aldershot, Wycombe, Bristol Rovers, etc. Fairly local and in need of a decent striker.

I must stress, i don't want rid of Miles. Much rather he continued his development here but 3 months at Aldershot in League 2 would toughen him up a treat ready for our assault at promotion into the new year.

Very true....here's that England squad from 2010, that contained Nouble and Bostock.

1    GK    Declan Rudd        Norwich City
2    DF    Nathaniel Clyne        Crystal Palace
3    DF    Matthew Briggs        Fulham
4    MF    Matty James (c)         Manchester United
5    DF    Steven Caulker        Tottenham Hotspur
6    DF    Nathan Baker         Aston Villa
7    MF    Jacob Mellis         Chelsea
8    MF    Dean Parrett         Tottenham Hotspur
9    FW    Ryan Noble         Sunderland
10    FW    Nathan Delfouneso         Aston Villa
11    FW    Frank Nouble         West Ham United
12    MF    John Bostock         Tottenham Hotspur
13    GK    Lee Nicholls         Wigan Athletic
14    DF    Thomas Cruise       Arsenal
15    DF    Reece Brown          Manchester United
16    DF    Josh Thompson        Celtic
17    FW    Matt Phillips        Wycombe Wanderers
18    FW    Ryan Donaldson        Newcastle Un

Got taken apart by Spain in a match I remember watching....not many from that side look like stepping up apart maybe from Caulker.

Spain had Martin Montoya and Marc Bartra, who now get a bit of game time with Barca....Montoya looks seriously good.  Thiago Alcantara, has been something of a Barca regular, over the last 18 months albeit used in rotation, also Iker Muniain, a Bilbao regular...and their great white hope Sergio Canales, who went to Real at same time as The Special One, and seems to have fallen out with him.

All of which shows how difficult it is to move up from that level to even making a decent career for yourself.

That is true Reg though the difference i feel is that most of the others are/were at big clubs where it is always a struggle to get games.
My feeling is he will be getting plenty of game time for us in the next few months.

Say Austin had joined Man U or say Spurs he could well be languishing in the reserves still or even back to non league....he played games for us instead and the rest is history...let us hope that Miles has a similar Storey Cheesy

I'll give you Clyne, but I think the point largely stands, that being thought of as one of the better players in England at 18/19 doesn't guarantee you anything.

There's no way we should loan out Storey. To me he should be above Rooney in the pecking order based on merit and is a great plan B coming off the bench. Start the odd game here or there and play about an hour-70 mins. He really should start on Saturday.

Fair play to him for impressing so much. Although surely this raises questions about England's youth selection policy? No hint of a call up before now, then 2 impressive games and he's pushing for a spot in the squad. Has he not been watched before?

Think the issue is that a players quality at the age of 18 isn't much of an accurate indication of how good they will be in the future. Sure there are exceptions, Wayne Rooney for example, but they are exceptions. You could probably pick 10 different squads for under 19 level and have the same hit rate from all of them over time.

Makes me wonder what the point of them is and whether they're just a waste of time and money that could be put to better use elsewhere. Storey will learn a lot more from playing in League One for us than he will for the England under 19.
