Not really
I have a pair of Loakes that I paid £350 for over 10 years ago and I still wear them twice a week.
Needless to say they are still in great condition.
How much have you spent on shoes in a similar period ?
That's the difference between a quality handmade shoe and something made in China for £3.50, with a designer label on it.

18 months - I know exactly why the hole has come about though - the very point of my foot at which I press the pedals in my car... Must remember to drive in crap shoes

Slightly off topic but my grandad is the oldest cobbler in the world. 83 and he still runs his own shop, working 6 days a week. If we had more people like him the world would be a much better place.

trevor ayres in havelock street
I think it's Vince Ayris - but it is in Havelock Street, and they're really good in there. I have always used them for all shoe soling/key cutting/engraving needs.

Probably part time. My English nan still works a couple of days a week to supplement her pension and she's 74. In fact it's her birthday today so she's 75.

happy birthday Coca Fola's nan!
on a slightly related note, i was surprised to discover that despite this country being filthy rich, the pension age is actually 67.

Yep. How many 83 year olds work full time in this country? Maybe if more did we'd have 47% of people under 24 out of work as well, just like Bosnia. (The overall figure is 43%, which means there's a lot of lazy bastards, or old fuckers are stopping others from working).
