I'm with Virgin (left BT ages ago because support was non-existant). I agree, that you get the speed you pay for generally. If it breaks, which it hasn't often and it is fixed quickly and it's easy to find out if they are working on it, get updates etc. I pay £65 for BB, TV and landline (which includes £5 for some internal calling somethingorother for the missus) and that is for a 20GB pipe.

We switched to Sky as our BT bill was £170 per quarter (only £20 worth of calls). Unlimited Sky is free for 6 months so we're saving a packet. However, it's not as reliable as BT (despite coming through the same BT line) and disconnects every day at peak times (after 12 noon and after 5pm).

Anyone having speed issues with their internet may be able to increase it simply by removing the bell-ring wire from your bt master socket(the point where your phone line enters your home). It's not needed with modern phones and can cause interference.

 It worked wonders for me and is a piece of piss to do yourself.

Just gone with Sky Telephone & Broadband, good deal but the reception on the line isn't the greatest! Anyone else found this?

I'm with BT. The price is reasonable and whenever I've had problems they've been quick to resolve them.

Never had major problems with BT as an ISP, other than the fact rural broadband is still in a shit state.

Some people nicked all the copper cabling out of the exchange in the village and instead of using the opportunity to replace it with fibre they replaced it with.... copper. Two months later the exact same thing happened aaaand... copper again.

Estonia can fucking do it so why is it so damned difficult in the UK?

I had O2 broadband (as a former O2 mobile customer) which moved to sky when they bought up O2's broadband business. I changed mobile network (and therfore lost my discount) and was paying £17.50 for my broadband and £15 for the line rental which I thought was rediculous.

Phoned O2/Sky to cancel and they started offering me their retention spiel..

I wouldn't normally sign up to something over the phone but I'd already done a bit of research and didn't think I'd be able to beat what they had offered me..

So I'm currently getting Sky Unlimited Broadband, Sky Talk Weekend, Sky TV (with the Entertainment Extra + package) and a Sky+ HD box for £15.40/month for 12 months. (Line rental included in the price)

The broadband speeds are reasonable for my location - 10-15mbps fairly consitently.

I've had to speak to their customer services a few times because of a few teething problems and their service has been astonishingly good. UK call centres that pick up after a few rings..

So I guess the moral is - if you're a former O2 broadband customer and you're out of contract then its certainly worth making the "I'm leaving" call..
