So the opening ceremony was good then.
Was going to watch it, but we had a power cut at 8:45, so missed it.
Off to Coventry tomorrow to watch Football (Mexico v Gabon & South Korea v Switzerland)

Also reading that, as well as showing it delayed by an hour, NBC cut the 7/7 tribute in favour of a michael phelps interview. Classy

Watched it in Hyde Park. Brilliant stuff, it's very easy to be cynical (and fuck knows I usually am) but somehow it all worked, absolutely brilliant bits throughout, but Bond, Bean and more poignantly Ali were excellent.

Certainly did on the HD channel. Thought he was lip synching at first, but his performance was definitely live or he wouldn't have been out of tune!

Mr Bean was there for the kids only. Don't underestimate the popularity of Mr Bean outside of the UK. I missed the first 15 minutes but thought the whole thing was perfectly pitched - not too pretentious, not much pomp and circumstance and a diverse range of performances. The end was a damp squib with a seemingly never-ending rendition of Hey Jude. Watched it on NRK (the Norwegian equivalent to BBC) and their commentators did their best to ruin the whole thing, particularly by chatting away during the moment's silence.

One of the most instantly recognisable faces in this neck of the woods, Mr Bean is a massive export.

It was brilliant, loved it.
Rather off-beat highlight for me was when the Bee Gees started playing just as Fiji were read out in the competitors entrance. I laughed but was probably the only one.
