He's the best British player since Fred Perry. People need to get over the fact he is Scottish.

Agreed, after all I'm sure all of those Tennis loving Scotties were fully behind Henman when he was losing four Wimbledon semi-finals as the best Brit since Perry

I don't take much interest in tennis but it's not easy getting to the final of any sporting event be it golf, football, tennis etc who gives a flying fuck if he's Scottish? he was representing Great Britain and was the first British player in a lifetime to get to a final, fair play to him. I'm sure I would've shed a tear after getting to the final coming so close to winning then losing.

All the bullshit aside, it was frustrating watching it yesterday as Murray was good enough to have won it, but kept making silly mistakes, especially in the 2nd set.  If he had won that I reckon he would have won the match.

Fedderer was calm and collected, Murray seemed to spiral into a self defeating mindset where he felt everything was against him.  I believe he lost the game in his head rather than on the court.

If he gets his head right and stops spitting the dummy he could turn into a decent champion.  If he doesn't he will just be another Henman.  Lucky for him he is still young enough to do something about it.

It could've just been down to pressure though, this was his first wimbledon final, and everybody was hoping/expecting a win. whereas federer has been in a fair few finals and won them.

Not knocking Murray at all but the media will now do what they do best

Make a loser into a national institution. Happens in all sports. We Brits seem to prefer glorious failure to actually winning anything.

But he's not a glorious failure is he ?

He's number 4 in the world, behind 3 of the best players to ever have picked up a racquet.

He has been in major finals, and (i believe) will win one eventually

Even Lendl took about 5 goes at it before he won one, and not many people would say he was a failure....

To be honest he is just not good enough and whilst the holy trinity are still playing it is unlikely that he will be.

Amazing what a few tears can do to sway people opinions.

Even when he was on top and fighting back it was mainly due to Federer making errors rather than Murray hitting winners. He was chasing all over the court to due to the shot Federer was pulling out.
That said he gave a great account of himself and made a great match of it.
Federer just had too much class for him(his one handed backhands are sublime)

He is the same in most other games aswell though, nothing to do with just the final.  It just happened that he played a better player in the final.

He won't ever win a big one - Novak and Rafa are the same age as he is so will likely be ever present throughout his career - and both are physically, technically and mentally stronger than Murray.

I'd imagine he probably will win one eventually. He's been in quite a few finals already, and just needs that bit of luck in crossing the line. There's no doubt that he isn't quite as good as the top 3, but he's the closest to them out of the rest. He's actually been incredibly consistent over the past few years, nearly always in amongst the quarters or semis in the big tournaments.

No idea why English people have such an issue with him. He engaged in a bit of banter with a few journos when he was a teenager and he still gets abuse.

It has to be a mental thing. He has beaten those 3 players a few times but not when it matters. He has shown that technicly he is good. 1 grandslam win and he would fly i reckon

A few English people have an issue with Murray.  Those that do not (ie the majority) tend to make a lot less noise.  Similarly, Scottish 'English haters' tend to make a lot more noise than the majority of Scots who, in my experience, couldn't care much either way.  (I know some Scots who were actually following England this time around at the Euros, for example.  Also a good number who support England cricket avidly...especially against the Aussies.  But that wouldn't make good reading in a red top, would it?)

It's idiot posts like the one at the top of this thread that polarise things.

And both were knocked out by players 'worse' than them this year.

It's going to take a bit of luck if he's going to win a major, but Nadal and Djokovic aren't 'unbeatable'.
