I was pleased that for the first time in a major final, Murray looked like he belonged there. Good luck to the bloke, and the naysayers can suck Tim Henman's balls. Never could support that Oxford scummer.

And both were knocked out by players 'worse' than them this year.
It's going to take a bit of luck if he's going to win a major, but Nadal and Djokovic aren't 'unbeatable'.
The fact that he's mustered up 1 set in 4 finals suggests its nowt to do with luck and all do to with ability to play and handle pressure. If he kept getting pipped 3-2 luck may have something to do with it, but he doesn't.

Bogus Dave and Arriba have cleared this up well. Murray was having a laugh with the journalist and Henman and it got reported as a serious issue.
I'd like to think that Murray will win a grand slam in time, he's come on leaps and bounds in the last couple of years. 4 years ago the bloke could barely manage 5 sets (actually probably longer than that but you get the picture) now he's getting closer and closer to that elusive title. Looks a much better player these days.
And I love the hypocracy of the anti-Scottish sentiment of certain Town fans. You know it's not like we've never had any decent Scottish players and managers in our history is it?

Andy Murray being good at tennis does bugger up a perfectly good Python episode though...

I actually quite like Andy Murray, he has a dry sense of humour and has been misunderstood. I too would like to think he will win a grand slam in his time (more than one to be honest, at least one Wimbledon) The thing that makes me laugh is the arrogance of the Scots about him, the really rubbing it in our faces that he's scottish when he does well and constant reminding of us that he is scottish and not british. Arrogance is what they say they hate about the English when it comes to other sports, when really the hatred comes from their own pitiful pathetic jealousy...they finally get to a position where they might contribute something to British sport other than curling medals at the winter olympics and they turn into everything they suposidly hate but tenfold. To Andy Murray, I feel sorry for him because he's a genuine bloke and is working his bollocks off to win something meaningful in the most difficult era of tennis...but to all those bitter scottish wankers out there

See this is the problem, English people don't get why the Scots don't want to see or hear about English success. The average person north of the border doesn't give a flying eff about your average English person getting success - this can be shown by a number of Scots supporting Premiership clubs. The thing they seem to hate more than anything is the English based media, this is the source of major irritation, not your average Nigel public.

Which, I would say, also pisses us lot off south of the border. The constant crap about how great the England football team is supposed to be is a shining example. One World Cup, one semi final and one Euro semi...it ain't that great. Yet the media build the team up to be world beaters and they 'fail' each time. More realistic expectations at the start, would help. How did the Scots feel about England in the Euros, given the lower expectations, lack of St George crosses on cars (not that you'd get many in Scotland, of course )? Was the ABE as strong as ever?

Funny you should say that, Donkey. I detected a definite softening of the ABE line for precisely the reason Jan stated. This time it was different. The hype wasn't there in the same way and Scots (and others) seem to have picked up on that. The ABE phenomenon is largely a reaction to the perceived arrogance of a largely London based media...and not knee jerk xenophobia. Take away the arrogance, and our neighbours are not going to be quite as anti.
As I mentioned earlier, all this is generalisation anyway. I listened to a Scottish radio report this evening (I'm up here now) about the Scottish twins who were born an hour or so apart - one in Northumberland and the other across the border in Melrose - which finished up with the delighted father explaining that he supported all the UK teams anyway and joked that he wanted a St George's outfit for the older twin. This kind of attitude is more prevalent than the media would have you believe. Which is why I get irritated when people generalise. Wording of some of the earlier posts gives the impression that all 5 million Scots, to a man, are completely uniform in their disdain for anything to do with England...and that simply isn't the case.

Spot on. "So, expectations are low, do you think England can win Euro2012??" As was said earlier, nothing against your average punter, have a night out in Glasgow and you'll find we're not all out to hunt English people, the annoyance comes from the arrogant media bullshit that you have to put up with yourselves. And Daily Mail followers.
