Won't be happy to see GP go, but I think he'd be easier to replace than Grant.

Wasn’t the same player after returning in January and, tbh, we can’t afford a £5k pw player during this period. Him and Keshi would reduce the wages considerably.

Ah, fair enough. I thought perhaps you were going off something separate which might have added credence to it rather than just a reiteration of a single source

It may depend if Wellens would be able to get near to the wages he's being offered elsewhere, although he has said previously he does not move for the money he wants 1st team football, and having been 'burned' at his previous club by being left on the bench he may be more reluctant to leave here if Wellens can offer him a decent wage as he knows he will likely play and in a playing style that suits him.

Fans will be experience various levels of hysteria over departing players until the new guys come in. Same every summer.

I've said it before but from a human level it's perfectly understandable for Doyle to leave for a team in the North West if the money is better than what we can offer and, from a footballing aspect, he did exactly what we desperately needed him to do and that was to get us promoted.

It's not much of an embargo if you can bring in players with the wage demands of Eoin Doyle though (I know it's a transfer embargo, not a wages one per se).

He’s stated quite openly that he’s after a last big pay day before retiring.

I am sure he will take the best financial offer. I don't think that he can be criticised for that.

The exact opposite IMO. Scoring goals is the hardest thing in the game. Sure Grant is a good player and i get why everyone loves his no-nonsense attitude but he is much easier to replace than Doyle.

Also i would say they are both 32/33? So investing heavily in players at the tail end of their careers can be risky. Richards was good the end of one season and awful the next. Decline at that age can come quick. Especially in Grants case where your game is built on physicality.

Would like to keep both but don't mind replacing either with younger models.

Scoring goals is the hardest thing in the game.

Yet Yates had a similar scoring ratio when played in Doyle's position...

It seems to be an embargo in name alone not in substance.

I don't think anybody (on here certainly) is being critical of him in not signing for us, if indeed he doesn't.

I have only seen posts saying good luck to him but that hes not worth breaking the wage structure to sign.

On Twitter and FB that may be a different story, but on here, I think we all appreciate what he did for the club and good luck wherever his future lies be it at Town or elsewhere.

All sounds positive and suggests financially we are ok relatively speaking. Donohue was the best left back we’d had for years in the few games we played so would be happy with that.

Sounds like Wellens' tooth situation is still causing him trouble... I know that feeling.
