Apparently Ed Milliband has insisted that Francis Maude apologise for his comments about perhaps filling up a Jerry Can and putting it in the garage....

Jesus wept, can the whole country just get a fucking grip.

Considering there would have to be 7 days notice given prior to any strike the comments from the Tories and the panic buying by the public are utterly ridiculous.
People with empty tanks now have to queue up or drive around due to fools clogging up fuel stations who just want to top up their tanks.
Some of these stations would be uneffected by strikes by the way even if there was industrial action.
The Government have most definately got what they wanted.

Yep the joys of the EU...

Is there going to be VAT on cold stuff like ice creams next? Does that mean the local kebab van prices are going to increase?

What if the food I purchase is tepid or luke warm, can I reclaim the VAT?

I'm going to have to increase the amount of Pasty funds I put away for my next holiday in Cornwall in May. One a day is the minimum so I'll have to chuck in a few extra quid.

What if you buy a pasty cold, complete the transaction and then ask them to warm it up? Deferred VAT? Smiley

What do they mean by ambient temperature? So if we have a heatwave of 40C I can have my pasty exempt from VAT?

Last quarter’s growth figure has  been downgraded by the Office of Budget Responsibility to -0.3%.

The implications for this Government of having a second consecutive quarter of negative growth are huge and it would put the UK into “technical recession”.

So, in the last few days of this quarter, they get people to panic-buy everything from cigarettes, pasties , stamps and petrol I guess 31 million odd cars filling up is good for the figures.

They're the only group to say this though, other more respected groups such as the Office for National Statistics (ONS) are predicting growth in the first quarter.

not looked at any other figures that fact remains though that revenues will have gone up.
Just caught the end of a report on the radio and I think it said the government made and extra 35 million in fuel revenue yesterday.

thats a bit simplitistic though, I would guess revnue will be down by similar amounts in the following days since less people need to fill up....

ONS doesn't make predictions.
