Don't get too excited. Ritchies replacement!
I know whats been said by Paolo and Matt but hope Rooneys signing isn't to soften the blow of Ritchies departure. That's the problem supporting Swindon, always waiting for the bad news. Sounds like a good signing so I'll stay positive for now.

Not sure if Gillingham have a reserve team, if not Rooney will be way behind match fitness levels so we may not get the best out of him for a few weeks yet.

Gary Rose tweeted that Paolo sees Rooney as a left winger and not Ritchie's replacement.

Rooney on the left and Ritchie on the right, sounds good although de vita has been playing well recently so good competition for that spot won't hurt.

Assuming he agrees terms i'm pleased enough with this signing. Gives us plenty of options and i'm sure i've read somewhere that Rooney can play left wing or CM.

We need to come up with an imaginative chant for him. I know, what about Rooney, Rooney, Rooney.

We've been after this guy for ages so I'm not concerned by the suggestion that he's a replacement for anyone.
I hope we're not paying over the odds for him.

Difference now is we would have already sold Ritchie and then replaced him with a panic buy at the end of the transfer window.

I don't see him as a replacement for Ritchie but that doesn't mean Ritchie wont go. If he goes we'll probably get someone else in as well.

Have to laugh at all the Gills fans saying he wasn't good enough for them and that they're glad to have got rid. Sour grapes

I wouldn't totally write off Gillingham's criticisms. He's young with inconsistencies in his game and can be reckless.
But Gillingham know that there's talent there because they wanted to keep him at their club. Hopefully it will be Swindon Town that can get the best out of him because time is on his side.
...and yes, if Rooney rejects Swindon then the Gills lot will be changing their opinions much like what we read on Constable Thursday.

wouldnt get too excited yet. Sounds like he probably has some 'advisors' desperate to make some cash off his back.

I agree with what you've said about him improving but some Gills fans are coming across so bitter. Quite funny actually.

I keep forgetting about our 'rivalry' with them.
They must be fuming. Ha.
