I've thought this for a long time. All of the protection against discrimination that is given to ethnic minorities, women, the disabled and so on just defines them as being different and becomes self fulfilling. If you want equality you have to treat everyone the same, not give certain groups special treatment.

The whole Hansen thing is pathetic. It's the BBC covering their arses because they don't want to upset anybody. In the same way as ITV pulling Tim Minchin's song from the Jonathan Ross show (Youtube it if you haven't seen it yet) just in case someone takes offence and complains.

I'm sure if you analysed every comment on TV there'd be someone somewhere who could be potentially offended by it. We may as well just do away with any form of dialogue on TV, just in case.

It all started a few years ago with that row with Labour over wmd's in Iraq or that bloke who topped himself over them or something like that, can't remember the details now. Ever since then their whole stance has changed for the worse, far too concerned about doing or saying anything controversial. Not sure you can blame them, it was the politicians that did the damage to their independence.
