As I didnt go to the Reading game this was the first time I saw the pitch and it looked very good although there was a lot of water on it. Thought Risser was very average until his sublime finish but that might because he was injured for some of pre season and lacking fitness. Flint had a good solid game and deserved the man of the match he was awarded. Hopefully he will continue to play well and start. Thought Smith's goal kicks were very poor however it looked from where I was sitting he made a few good saves in the first half when Crewe should have scored. Overall im pleased with the performance for the first game of the season and hope to see more of the same!

A large amount of their Ire was down to the fact he wasn't competing for headers, and they appeard to take great glee when bodin took too long with the opening in the second half. Cunts

To get the negatives out of the way first:

- smith looked out of his depth,

I wasn't there so I can't argue that point. I would just say though, that Vic just picked Smithy out for special mention for how well he played, first half in particular.

Just saying.

I meant the midfielder. Phil was the main reason we didn't go behind

First 5 were encouraging. And then up to the penalty we were largely shite. Devera, Smith (J) and Risser were woeful, Bodin and DaVito finding it hard to get into the game. Flint, who was a skinny man mountain at the back,  and Smith (P) kept us in it but lets be honest - woeful finishing let us off what should have been being 2-0 down (at least).

Then we started to get into it a little more. And Bodins run tha tlead to the penalty was a good one, though it was hard to see if it was a penalty or not. Well taken by kennedy too.

After the break we mullered them as much as they had done us in the first half. Moreso. But we took our chances and played some neat footy at times. Everybody improved and upped their game, except FLint because he was already having a stormer!

Downside: We can't play like we did in the first half if we are to do something this season. We probably need more attacking force (though Connell looked lively when he came on). This isn't an attack on Bodin. I thought he had a fine game for someone of his and experience.

I also like the fact Bodin forced his way into the starting 11, despite being sceptical. It sends a message to the squad.

I won't go on any more, it was a mixed performance but the signs are encouraging. And the monkey of no home win this year is off the back- Reg will be happy.

I totally agree with Batch, felt Bodin had a fine game with little or no support from De Vita, thought he was something of a weak link in all truth.  Kennedy made a couple of errors but his all round game was very encouraging, I did feel with Ritchie on the right we looked a little unbalanced, would prefer to see him on the left where he seems more comfortable.  All in all, lucky to go in at half time a goal to the good but thoroughly deserved the three points for the second half performance.

The midfield pairing of Risser and Smith didn't work first half at all. They sat too deep and watched the game pass them by. At half time PdC must have told them exactly that and in 2nd half their movement was a lot better.

Great goal from Risser and in the first half he would have never been that far up the pitch to get a strike at goal, not overly convinced in the two but it's early days yet.

It was fantastic to have options on the bench and the subs that came on did superb; Ferry never failed to find a red shirt, McCormack was chasing every ball and Connell looked very lively and for me would start ahead of De Vita who didn't do a lot for me out of the ordinary.

PdC was very animated on the sides as you would expect but talked to the players throughout. Surprised Ferry and Connell weren't knackered when they came on he seemingly had them warming up for the entire game.

Flint was superb and the best performance by one of our central defenders for a long long time.

Just got back, well happy with that!

I must admit I had my head in my hands for the first 30 mins though, midfield = anonymous, attack = weak, Devera = shocking.

I honestly thought that Risser and Devera were joke footballers.... some kind of sick prank being played out in front of 8,000 people.

But as the half wore on we got better, despite what a few have said I thought Jonathan Smith looked busy and was committed/mad in the tackle.

Aden Flint was an absolute beast throughout and deffo deserved man of the match.

The pen deflated Crewe a bit, but we were awesome in the second half, Devera was a different player, Risser really came into it, I thought Bodin worked his socks off and we throughly deserved the win. Strength in depth is pleasing, Connell looked lively, McCormack worked hard, pleasing all round.

Rissers goal was stunning, simply stunning, the technique of the man was superb....

Roll on the Football League Show tonight!
