Saying that, despite the usual paper talk it's pretty clear that Cuthbert, like the rest of them, was keen to go so it doesn't really matter either way!
That!

No one nor 1/2 dozen players are bigger than the club. The club was here before them and will be here after they have gone.

I'm not bothered about Sheehan, Prutton, Rose, Dossevi, O'Brien et al but I do think that Cuthbert showed in his first season that with the right players around that he can be more than an asset to a club.

One poor season doesn't define a career, espeicailly at his age.

Saying that, despite the usual paper talk it's pretty clear that Cuthbert, like the rest of them, was keen to go so it doesn't really matter either way!

I agree entirely with this, other than the fact that Cuthbert wanted to go. How have you reached that conclusion? From what I've heard, Cuthbert was keen to stay on vastly reduced wages, but Di Canio decided he didn't want him.  Did we get a fee for him does anyone know? Y

We all know that an experienced CB is essential, but with Cuthbert going, we now need at least one more as well. I'm sure Cuthbert would have done the job in League 2 even if he wasn't first choice, so I see no logic in leaving ourselves having to pay out for somebody who is unlikely to be any better.

I'll be surprised if Douglas remains and then we seriously need to be getting in 7 or 8 players not 5!  Imo it will be difficult to get promotion at the first time of asking after such a complete rebuild.

My opinion is purely down to cynicism.

One week "I want to stay"

Next week "I've joined Orient, the project here looks great etc etc etc"

Same old, same old and all that.

The club have been very quiet regarding the departing players which in one way is good because they don't need the send-off and bad in the sense that we don't know what's happening.

Cuthbert praised his time at Swindon because of the friends he had made (plus the P-O's), that's the impression I have anyway.

All of which, I think, is completely understandable when football is your profession.  You're being loyal to the company that's paying your salary.  I think we all know that the extent of Orient's 'project' is to stay in League 1, hope for another cup tie against Arsenal some time soon and hope that West Ham don't put them out of business all together with cut price tickets when they move to the Olympic Stadium (assuming West Ham stay in business themselves).  But nevertheless, Cuthbert is their player now...so he's going to at least feign enthusiasm for now.

Agreed, it's part and parcel of the game and I have no issues with that. I just think people read the positive spin by out-of-contract players in the papers and believe it.

Not too worried about this.

In simple terms, it's only worth getting rid of someone if you can replace with someone on a par or better.

I'm pretty sure that Paolo can replace last season's Cuthbert with someone better.

In Paolo we trust.

I'm not overly fussed. I must say there were only really 2 players i'd have wanted to keep from the current lot and that's Douglas and Cuthbert. Having said that though i'm sure he's been released for a reason and PDC probably has a player lined up. Just waiting on Douglas now really. Hoping we can keep him and Ferry here.

Cuthbert was released/allowed to go because of his wages. Too high for L2. The club offered him a lower paid contract but obviously went elsewhere.

Look at it in the long term though. Orient will never be more than a League 1 club. If miraculously they managed to get promoted they would come straight back down.

Neither will we,come on.

Ultimately next season it's irrelevent but we are a bigger club. We have more fans, more potential fans, better catchment area, better board, better stadium (which is due to be redevolped).

Orient are in a higher division but no way are they a bigger club than us. No chance.

I got a bit pissed off watching lots of unrealized potential last season. We had a good season out of him and a shit one, who's to say the first one wasn't a one-off?
When the going got tough he, and a lot of others, were invisible.

No great loss.

Not saying we're worse off for him leaving, but we've missed out on a massive transfer fee because our whole team was bollocks last season.

Bit of a shame if you ask me.

I understand the bitterness from some people after last season, but if we sign the experienced CB we've needed for the last 12 months then Scotty would've been a huge asset... Mind you, if he wanted out or whatever then it's probably for the best.

I would imagine the majority of the squad would be wanting out.

Too fucking spineless to be ready to own upmand try and rectify last season imo.
