At least the Obama administration allowed this to be announced in a far more appropriate manner than what they did when the U.S. found Saddam Hussein chomping on Mars bars in a makeshift Iraqi hide-out.

I'd be glad they had been brought to justice, but I wouldn't be celebrating. Obviously it's not the entire country that is having a big party but the number of them that do think it's cause for celebration is worrying - especially as those pictures will be beamed around the world. Let's not forget that civilians were killed in this attack and that no one had been tried in a court.
Court? Maybe if he had surrendered himself. He did mastermind and funded the 9/11 attacks. That is indisputable. Quite often these terror suspects do have a behind closed doors trials and are sentenced in their absence. That wasnt needed in this case. I am against the death penalty for any offence, and I was against the torture of terror suspects at Guantanamo. But Im glad you are in charge of protecting anyone from mass murdering terrorists. These people have declared war on the western world and need to be assasinated where incarceration is impossible. As for people celebrating, do we really care what the rest of the world thinks? Didnt see any burning of Pakistani flags or Korans. Just pride in their own country. To an extent you are trying to control the uncontrollable, a spontaneous outburst of people's genuine feelings. When I saw Muslims in the middle east celebrating 9/11 it did disgust me to an extent, but that was their view and they were welcome to it, you cant stop them feeling the way they do.

The bit that shocked me the most was that the Yanks had been watching the compound for two years before doing anything. Normally they're as knee-jerk as they come.

If I was bin Laden then I'd certainly have a load of "I'm not dead" video releases pre-recorded for release over the next few months, ready for this exact eventuality.

My thoughts exactly. Maybe the base was one of a number Bin Laden uses, and he had only just arrived.

Its possible they took him alive and covered it up, but I can't see them totally making it up after 10 years. Though personally I think what is being reported is true.
I don't doubt that bin Laden is dead, America is not going to announce such a thing if there's a risk that he may pop up somewhere else in the future saying; "hi chaps I'm over here" I query though the timings - normally in circumstances like this America are keen to release videos, photos, etc as quickly as possible - but this time they're strangely quiet despite bin Laden being the most wanted and the most famous. Until there's some kind of proof that the event occurred over the weekend - then it's my view that there appears to be something amiss.

What you mean announce that the chap has been killed outright rather than 'we got him' (captured him) and subject him to a trial?

Normally, in that part of the world, they set fire to the body, which would've more appropiate, preferably using jet fuel !!!

Especially with the timing. Obama is under extreme pressure at home via the ecomomy, and the allegations whether he should legally be president which made the White House release his birth certificate. I wouldn't be surprised that Osama had the shit kicked out of him before they shot him in the head, and that is why we haven't seen any pictures, but whilst there is no picture of his death, there will still be speculation of him still being alive.
