Always love revisiting some ''older'' music...I think any music over 20yrs can qualify as older...can't it?
But what of Milburn, a cracking live band out of the Sheffield set during the late 90s/00s. It's hard to think that Milburn only formed in 2000 but never had the same level of fame as two well known Sheffield bands who straddled either side of their millenia founding in Pulp and Arctic Monkeys, who played as support band to Milburn. In a similar vein, Foals somehow achieved much more success, probably thanks to NME fanboying/giving them a constant equivalent reach around in every article they wrote - and I like Foals (despite being from that place beginning with O) but Milburn just always felt more genuine; definitely one of the most underrated Indie bands of the turn of the millenia.
There's is a charm about Milburn...maybe they weren't edgy enough for NME and other press, compared with their hometown counterparts but they still wrote and performed some great tunes and always had a decent live gig out of them
Anyway, here's a bit of Cheshire Cat Smile. Pondering, melancholic life lyrics from stories that you always feel aren't written from true experiences. This one is actually a mere young pup, only being released in about 2005 but it certainly feels older. Coupled with an indie style I'll never get bored of. Glad I got to see them play this live a few times. Enjoy.
'...So it has come to an end Things haven't changed you are still looking rough my friend Things get broke, things come clean If you wanted to leave then why are you still here?'
Don't open your mouth and stick to your guns You've got to realise that she's indifferent Woah oh ah oh what's your name? Just won't learn, here we go again.'

Happy De La Soul day
Big hip-hop and De La fan but have seen them twice and they were awful. The first time was at Norwich UEA and they came out in a bad mood because it was an Oxfam gig and the crowd got impatient at a raffle that went on for ages and into their set time. They heard the commotion and weren't happy. Then saw them in Kings Cross at some weird venue that had a village hall vibe. They charged about £35 a ticket (pricey for about 10/15 years ago and that venue, with no support) and the place was half full. The sound was awful and they had a go at the crowd for being, "a bunch of Jiminy Cricket motherfuckers" because it was full of white people. The only one who wasn't a dick was the DJ, Maseo.

Very surprised at how good these are. Shakin Stevens reinvents himself as Johnny Cash:
Not bad for a 72 year old!
