yes it is.

Can't believe it's 40 years since The Jam split, still my favourite band.

Dakota is a great song, but, these days, it always makes me feel sad. It was the favourite song of a friend, who was killed a couple of years ago by an angry motorist who didn't like him riding his bike two abreast with a friend.

The motorist decided to teach my friend a lesson, by overtaking the pair and blipping his brakes. Unfortunately, he hit the brakes too hard and in that moment of madness, my friend had nowhere to go. The severity of the impact resulted in a number of traumatic injuries. His riding companion frantically administered CPR and kept him alive until the driver returned and an ambulance eventually arrived. But, my friend never regained consciousness and life support was switched off a number of days later.

Dakota was played on loop at the funeral as we watched a slideshow of his life. He was 55 and left behind a wife, 2 adult daughters and a son who was just entering his GCSE year. His riding companion remains traumatized to this day and a number of the group he cycled with remain deeply affected. Some so much so that they can't bring themselves to cycle anymore.

The motorist wasn't a young kid as you might think. He was a 60 year old man. He remains at liberty despite murdering my friend. The police investigation remains open, but, its the word of one against another.

So yes, a great song, but, unfortunately, it makes me incredibly sad.

I feel your pain and a very sad story. I recently lost my dad and this song helps me get through the bad days.

fucking hell nmh, that's horrific. I'm so sorry for your loss and the fact he had family makes it even worse.

I used to despise dash cams/helmet cams but it makes you think.

I really hate Wellers miserable shitty attitude to bands reforming, saying if The Jam got to back together it would be sad and things like that. It wouldn't be sad it would be fucking epic.

He seems to have infected Noel Gallagher with this mentality as well who has become/becoming a similarly miserable old codger.

I'm reminded of this classic for some reason.
