Jazz and blues may not be everyone's cup of tea, but Ladyva from Switzerland raises the art of boogie-woogie to a new level. Hugh Laurie, for one, probably agrees with that statement.

Lovely stuff. If you closed your eyes you would think it was the backwards-walking-man-himself Jools, playing. Proper blues is awesome, when combined with a bit of jazz you can't help but tap that foot. Love a bit of brass though, and can't beat the sound of a well played Sax!

I’m somewhat a fan of Postmodern Jukebox (amazing live show) and yesterday discovered their cover of Zombie. Jarred me a bit at first, but quickly realised its great and her voice is incredible.

I've never seen them live but I love their takes on popular songs. Zombie is a cracking tune, but what are the sentiments behind it? I've always thought it might make me uncomfortable if I examined the lyrics. Can anyone enlighten me please?

Yarp. She'd get it. She does Black Hole Sun (the original is a favourite of mine) and it's great.

You should. It's quite a show with a compère and a whole routine. Zombie is a cracking tune, but what are the sentiments behind it? I've always thought it might make me uncomfortable if I examined the lyrics. Can anyone enlighten me please?
I used to think it was some sort of pro IRA song which rankled, but it's about the Warrington bombing apparently.

Thank you. I had the same idea as you initially did. What a strange subject for a song though.

It's far from pro IRA, it's a peace song. The zombie part is referring to the everlasting struggle for Irish independence, but it's obvious from the lyrics that it's anti-violence. Another head hangs lowly Child is slowly taken And the violence, caused such silence Who are we mistaken?
But you see, it's not me It's not my family In your head, in your head, they are fighting
With their tanks, and their bombs And their bombs, and their guns In your head, in your head they are crying
In your head, in your head Zombie, zombie, zombie-ie-ie What's in your head, in your head Zombie, zombie, zombie-ie-ie, oh Du, du, du, du Du, du, du, du Du, du, du, du Du, du, du, du
Another mother's breaking Heart is taking over When the violence causes silence We must be mistaken
It's the same old theme Since nineteen-sixteen In your head, in your head, they're still fighting
With their tanks, and their bombs And their bombs, and their guns In your head, in your head, they are dying
In your head, in your head Zombie, zombie, zombie-ie-ie What's in your head, in your head Zombie, zombie, zombie-ie-ie, oh oh oh oh oh oh oh ie-ie oh

OK thank you for the clarification. I won't dance with my arms by my side next time I hear it at the disco.
What is Oliver's Army all about?

You should probably look into the Right Said Fred back-catalogue ("oo-er matron") if you are looking at something a bit easier to understand.
