Today, this is my favourite band. But I can't decide which is my favourite song. Might be this.

TC&I (capital letters), the drum & bass section of XTC (capital letters), have done a song called "Kenny" about a Swindon Town footballer, but which one is it?

I don't know but I would guess if it is about a Swindon footballer it would be Kenny Stroud.

I know Terry Chambers through an agent and I know hes a Town fan, he also appeard on Top of the Pops wearing a Swindon shirt in about 1978ish.

Quote
Monkey Bars - Swing and slide
Goalpost Jerseys - Picking up sides
Kenny played where the grass had died
Rotten council

He learnt his skill on the compact mud
The talent scout gave him the nod
Now the stingers grow where Kenny was God
Go Kenny

Let's go down where the dream is made
All over England
Going, going, going
Let's go where he made his name
All over England

The tree is shook and the conkers fall
Follow the echoes on the garage wall
Now bungalows will settle the score
Rotten council

The newts and tadpoles under rocks
The kids in streams with the jam jar pots
See the wonder of allotment plots
Pick a broad bean

Let's go down where the dream is made
All over England
Going, going, going
Let's go where he made his name
All over England

Grinning Mayors in local papers
Shaking hands with business leaders
The Tench and the Carp are bottom feeders

In Milton Keynes
They planned until they burst
In Coventry
The Germans got there first
Reading, Swindon, Temple Meads
The lungs are knackered but the teeth are clean

Let's go down where the dream is made
Monkey Bars - Swing and slide
Let's go where he made his name
Goalpost Jerseys - Picking up sides
Let's go down where the dream is made
All over England
Going, going, going

Let's go where he made his name
Monkey Bars - Swing and slide
Let's go down where the dream is made
Goalpost Jerseys - Picking up sides
Let's go where he made his name
All over England
Going, going, going

Let's go down where the dream is made
Monkey Bars - Swing and slide
Let's go where he made his name
Goalpost Jerseys - Picking up sides
Let's go down where the dream is made
All over England
Going, going, going

Kenny Stroud? Not born in Swindon but lived there as a lad and played for Swindon Schools.

If you read the lyrics there is no mention of being born in Swindon.

No. But it seems clear it was someone who grew up there.

Recently discovered this little gem from 1979. Unusually, it recounts the technical spec of the 27-litre V12 car that broke the land speed record in 1926, and its driver's subsequent decapitation by the right drive-chain (subsequently questioned at the time of the car's recovery and restoration after 1969). They don't write 'em like that any more.

Friend of mine quit her job to start a band last year and her first single was played on Radio 1 last night.  Really very good.
