Hope sentance is lenient, for the big man that is, it would appear he was trying to do the right thing.

History is full of people trying to do the right thing, or thinking they were, when they weren't. No excuse for using excessive force - if it was a Police officer that had done that everyone would be calling for him to be sacked and prosecuted.

Still don't understand why the conductor didn't do it, or call for assistance from a colleague - must have been others on the train plus it was stopped at a station.

Yes, there was an excuse for using force...

 - a young lad deciding he was immune from fare playing
 - abusive language
 - negotiations alone did not appear to be working
 - the feeling that just perhaps, some members of the general public are getting slightly tired of the 0.01% thinking they are above the law and can do what they want with little consequence. So they guy took the matters into his own hands, and I applaud him for that.
And it wasnt excessive force.

(however, I do concede, I am only going on the 1min of video evidence I have seen)

The bloke literally picked him up and threw him off the train to the ground. There is an interview with the kid and he has cut marks / scratches on his face, which he claims were caused by being thrown on to the ground. No need nor excuse for that and I'd imagine the Police agree it was excessive as they've charged him. As was discussed before the kid's side of things is that he had paid, was sold the wrong ticket and the conductor refused to listen or be reasonable.

One bit made me laugh though. The bloke who recorded it said he was going to pay for a ticket for the kid but as he was rude he decided to video it instead. It was the way he said it more than anything, as though it was the most natural reaction. A reflection on how society has been changed by YouTube. I'd do the same thing though, it was kicking off outside my house a few weeks back and I had my phone ready to video it if it got going properly.

This made me laugh more than anything:

I was at home yesterday morning when one of the neighbours knocked. I answered the door, he greeted me with a "Hi Sam" and I returned with "Hi Paul". He handed me a card and a present for the little one. We said goodbye, I closed the door and opened the card which read "From Mark & Elaine" !! So, I've been calling him by the wrong name for the last four and bit years and he's never said anything. Truth be told, the wife told me his name was Paul so I'll just blame her.

I see the 'big' bully man who chucked that lad of the train has been charged with assault...cant be arsed with link, check out bbc website. Young lad has or will be charged as well I believe, with trepassing...

Bollocks to doing the right thing.

Red Card? Should be worth a goal...nearly as good as the Andrew Symonds bodycheck.
