Perfection is not attainable

TBF we’ve had a lot of loan players that have been shite and the fans have let them know, not just those from City.

Kadji was poor, ironically his best game was probably the one where he had to play as an emergency CB, and that was adequate.

Jonny Smith was an odd one, looked good in his first game and got progressively worse, (a bit like Aguiar) but has gone on to show that he’s not that bad. Maybe it was just poor coaching?
Kadji was utterly awful, a big athletic non footballer. Doubt he will make a decent career in football unless he can improve a lot.

Jonny Smith had his confidence completely eroded by Sheridactyl, thats all I can say on that.

I personally think that the City mong has a point, i just think he is wrong that he believes it is because they are from City.  I do think we as a fanbase are overly harsh on young loan players when they are not hitting the heights of our expectations - not in the way of booing them off the pitch or anything, but our online fanbase is not backwards in coming forwards in building a wave of criticism, which once it starts can get toxic pretty quickly. If we don't think that young unknown loanees read SM for feedback on their first professional loans then we are misguided.

I think having the likes of Doyle/Yates/KKH/Benda and other successful loans in recent years have raised our expectations of loans to a higher level and we can be unforgiving if they don't hit those heights.

Even on here we do it, even though less likely that they will see it on here.  Whether what is being said is accurate or not, seeing it repeated over and over again (and sometimes in quite disparaging terms for the bants) can't be great for a young players confidence.

Just my viewpoint of course..

100 percent agree. We judge them so soon, previously Louis Barry was a prime example too

No one can ever explain to me why elements of our fanbase wanked themselves into a 'retire his number' frenzy over KKH. One good tackle on De Bruyne... bang average Championship player at best, and Vanarama defending ability.
I genuinely preferred Rob Hunt and Caddis was head and shoulders above him.

See Adebayo, Muskwe, Gilbert scored for Middlesbrough yesterday, Kovar. They see a young player and think that’s all they will ever be.

To a point, it is all they ever will be *for us* by the nature of a loan. Problem is our own young players don't get much more support.

Not sure about that Nemo. Players like Storey Parsons and Minturn now get a better pass than our loans. Louis Barry arrived here with less appearances than Parsons and by the end of it we had fans wanting him starting instead of Barry.

I couldn't give a shit whether a player has their contract owned by STFC or another team, doesn't come into the equation when looking at a player.

What you can sometimes see in a loan player is the underlying quality that will one day make them a better player, even if they are not 100% there yet.  Alzate for example, wasn't a world beater for us, but he looked like a player that would get a Premier League game under his belt in his career, which he has.

The likes of Barry had something, as did KKH.  They may not have been the finished article or played well beyond the L2 misfits they were around, but you could see that their next stop would be higher.

Kadji gave none of that, he looks like the sort of player that will have a career that matches Adeloye and Shade - one of diminishing returns, maybe gets lucky with a trial or patch of form here and there.  However, the basics looked bad.

Smith looked like a decent enough player to me, some good underlying basics that could be developed.  Not sure he had top division type of talent in him, but the sort that could be a poor mans Ritchie - who I remember watching and thinking would not quite match Ward's career!  you can't get them all right.

Every so often we get lucky and watch a player that just has it.  Milner and Given in my time.

Oh, and to show balance, I've not seen a single Swindon youth talent break through who I thought would go on to great things, maybe L Thompson had something about him to get a top tier transfer in his career (notwithstanding the injuries he then had).

I did watch a Youth game in the Cup once, against Everton and turned to my Everton supporting mate and told him Jeffers would go on to play for England one day.  Should have had a bet on that one.

Carrick was clearly class.

I knew there was one more.  I did think Broomes would do more than he did.  I mean he had a decent career, but thought he might touch the upper echelons.

Broomes 40 yarder at the CG vs Birmingham is possibly THE best goal I have seen a Town player score.

Barry was underwhelming for us IMO. Of course he’ll develop and he looked talented, but at that point in time he was a weaker part of the starting 11.

I appreciate the need not to write these players off, and the unhelpfullness in getting in their backs. But We’re not invested in their long term development, we need them to perform there and then - and if they can’t, well…

True, fans definitely take to some of them more than others. Macklin is the one that I was thinking of, a long time ago now admittedly but he was a real prospect and our fans were on his back from game 1 (I think he was playing on with a broken leg as well!).

Look at Brynn last season, getting dogs abuse from some dickheads in the TE before the first home game.

Ironically he played particularly well in the next couple of months saving us on more than one occasion
