I got contacted by a recruitment consultancy yesterday asking if I wanted to be put forward for the post of Head of Planning at Swindon Borough Council, I politely declined the opportunity.

Indeed, although to be fair it was a speculative call. When I was actively seeking my caveat tended to be Manchester or further north, most recruitment consultants seem to have zero grasp of geography with one trying to get me interested in a post in Milton Keynes! |

Same in my sector - specify senior developer contracts within an hour or so commute of Swindon, constantly get emails asking if I'd be interested in a "suitable for a recent graduate" junior support engineer in Belgium/Dublin/Glasgow/Bahrain. So let's see then, that's a completely different role, for half the money I'm looking for and only commutable if you're supplying me with a personal rocket. Oh, and it doesn't match my skill set. How the fuck did my email come out of your search? Or did you just email the entire database? |

I got Bahrain once, and TBH I would probably have been interested if I were not in a decent long term relationship at the time with the now wife, who whilst has been prepared to traipse around the north a bit was less interested in the Middle east! Also got offered a post in the Falkland Islands years back, again was sorely tempted. They only offer you a years contract at the start in case you cannot handle the solitude! |
