Maps.  I love them.  Always have.

But it occurred to me the other day that I hadn't bought one for ages.  Online mapping has taken over, I suppose, so not as much need any more.  So I went out and bought an Ordnance Survey edition to feed my inner geek.  It is a thing of beauty.

I know a guy who turned his love of maps and data into a living.

I'm a map man.  Are you familiar with the work of the British artist Richard Long?  He started off using maps as a medium for his pictures, which then developed further following his interest in landscape and walking.

There's one of his map pics in the Art Gallery in Bath Road.

Watching the 1982 world cup film, it was the first world cup I remember.  Had forgotten (I was only 7) how nasty that West Germany team was!

I can't believe how many good players Scotland had. Eg. Dalglish, Hansen, Archibald, Wark, Strachan, Souness

Don't forget Asa Hartford, John Wark, Danny McGrain, Alan Brazil, John Robertson, Joe Jordan, Paul Sturrock, George Burley ... all cracking quality players but they had Alan Rough in goal which nullifies anything on the pitch.

My cat came home last night after being missing for half the week. Little sod.

I think the media is finally starting to grow up when it comes to the England team.  Noticeable lack of (or, at least, a reduction in) hype before the game, and a fairly measured response to the defeat after it.

I do wonder whether it's all really because, in general, folk don't care about the national side quite as much as they used to.  Pick your reason as to why that is.  But I do like it that it feels like less of a circus this time around.

Expectations are lower, you could say realistic, in comparison to recent other major tournaments.

with John Wark and Joe Jordan in the squad they weren't going to win the best looking tam award!!
