I've never heard of that. I think the fact that the solicitors who sent that guy a letter are under investigation confirms it's some sort of scam.
Basically very very few people ever get taken to court for downloading stuff. It doesn't really happen.
If I download some music are sony going to come after me? If I download a film are Universal going to take me to court? No.

The risks are very low. But not zero. And I'm not saying I don't use torrents Chances are the worst that will happen is a warning letter.

Working in an office full of Brighton fans. Would quite enjoy the banter if there was any, I try to start conversations about football but they seem to not know what I am talking about - maybe they do not understand my accent - who knows. Anyway after 2 years of trying to talk footy I get monkey men beating their chests in my face shouting "we beat you" "what was the score?" and don't even get me started on the fraggle that works on the desk next to me who doesn't even know what a corner is and I had to explain what it was during the world cup - who now is suddenly a Brighton Fan. Fudge packing, crack licking, space docking c**ts Rant over

Don't worry , I suspect you'll be able to point at the league table and stick two fingers up sooner rather than later.

Wrong.
Although it'd be hard to prove it was actually you sat at the computer at that time etc. etc. by leeching that torrent you're actually seeding it too (no matter how small a part of the file you've downloaded) so technically you are file hosting/sharing and if that content is copywrite protected then you're liable to civil prosecution.
Let's just say an employee/agent of the publishing house is also leeching the same torrent. They can log IP addresses for everyone who leeches the part of the file that they seed. If they really want to, they can then apply to the courts to get your ISP to release your details and you'll then get a nice threatening letter asking for a rather large sum of money or they'll threaten you with court action.
This happened to my brother. Ministry of Sound wanted 375 quid
