I'm going to play at being the Devil's own advocate here.  There are plenty of things wrong with local authorities, granted.  I also know nothing about the workings of Swindon borough Council.   However, I have worked for two local authorities so far, and on Monday begin working for a third.  In my time doing so I have come across some people who take the (in no way large) pay cheque and go through the motions.  On balance though, more than half the people I have worked with work really fucking hard in some tough situations.

There are definitely a few at the top of each institution - and I personally believe most local authorities are far too top heavy - too many senior managers, not enough officers - who take the piss.  But to tar all Council workers with the same "money-grabbing" brush really riles me, especially when I see people going the extra mile for no extra pay.

Rant over.  Chewing gum annoys me a lot.
