I had to look this one up, because I vaguely follow parliament and I didn't realise there was a vote on this today.
It's because there wasn't. From the numbers involved, I think the vote you're referring to is this one, from the 8th January - six months ago -
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/clyvy4q82l9o - which was an attempt to amend a bill about schools, which is... not how legislation works. I think it'd be dangerous (and I'm sure the people posting this sort of thing don't care) to take this vote as being indicative of how the people voting actually felt about a potential enquiry as this wasn't a 'clean' vote on the topic. I'm not saying they're all in favour for one second, but this is a bit like amending the club's plans to build executive boxes with a clause saying they have to also build a fourth lane on the M4 or something, it's just... separate.
I assume it's circulating because the government *is* now having an enquiry on grooming gangs (not limited to Pakistani Muslim grooming gangs, because that isn't everyone involved, whatever certain online figures might choose to amplify). I imagine many of the names on the list will vote in favour (certainly not all!).
As for why they waited six months, it was most likely to wait for the Baroness Louise Casey report into the topic which came out today to see what the findings of that were
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/clynyyqdnrdoThat report was commissioned by... Keir Starmer in January.
I get that this is an emotive issue and one that there are a lot of people keen to push their views on, but it seems a bit much to get angry at this current Government on this one, they seem to be doing everything that you want just at the speed of UK politics.
Kemi Badenoch, who proposed the amendment in January, was of course an MP for, and then a minister in, the previous governments under May, Johnson, Truss and Sunak, none of which did any of the above. She was even Minister for Women & Equalities for nearly two years.
It's a bit of a tasteless political football in any case - I think we can all safely agree that grooming gangs are a bad thing and should be prevented, that the victims should be supported and the perpetrators punished, along with anyone who covered them up deliberately or through incompetence.
