Official figures, external show that offenders from ethnic minorities consistently get longer sentences than white offenders for indictable offences.

I believe the Labour MP is trying to get the rules changed so that everyone is treated equally regardless of their background? These rules about the ethnicity are NOT put in place by the government i believe?
I think both Labour and Conservatives are in agreement, if I understand it correctly.
Should never be any suggestion of treating anyone differently because of their race or religious beliefs, not just in sentencing but in all matters. Can't understand why it was out there in the first place. |

Both the Labour and Conservative MPs in the article you linked agree with you on that. It seems to have been set by an independent panel who, I suspect, are rather regretting their decisions with the storm it's caused. |
