On a similar vein a friend of mine has their credit card cloned, however it was rather easily cleared up as the person who nicked the details then used the card to pay their home gas bill!

Seen them all about 20 times unfortunately. Look on the bright side, you've still got Hannah Montana and the rest of the Disney dross to come..

Someone logged into my Pinterest from Saudi Arabia.

My Pinterest contains some manicures/outfits I'd like to try, pictures of baby animals and some home decoration tips. I don't use the password for anything else.

I don't know much about these things but I hope the effort to get into my account was worth it. I quite like the idea of someone spending a lot of time trying to access someone's personal details and just having to wade through pictures of baby pandas.

Went out for something to eat earlier. Ordered a carbonara in a small, local restaurant. It turned out the carbonara they served was off, something I did not realise until AFTER I took a mouthful. I then proceeded, quite naturally and reflexively, to vacate the contents of my mouth and stomach right there and then. I didn't really have a choice in the matter.

I've been eating at said restaurant quite regularly and not had a problem before. It's also convenient and fairly cheap, so I think I would likely have overlooked the incident and put it down to 'one of those things'. Except that a member of staff decided to complain to me that I made a mess on their floor.

I don't think I'll burden them again.

Massive "reputable" companies still not treating data security seriously:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-45016906

They'll get a nominal fine and still carry on not doing anything much to handle customers' data properly. About time the ICO got powers to send some of these fuckers down. A couple of lax CEOs in jail would focus minds

Urgh...No chance would you catch me back there regardless, and I eat at the Hungry Horse.

What the average eatery like where you are in Thailand then, cheap and cheerful but pot luck on hygiene, or much like here?

Actually are you still in BK? I assume its like most cities....

Not sticking up for them, don't know the circumstances, but security is a bit of a bugger to get right.

If they blatantly shied away from best practices/continual reviews and expertise then fair enough, string em up.

Pretty much. Some places are filthy, particularly the street food. Many seem oblivious to food hygiene, although the more you pay the better you can/should expect. Those with a reputation to keep would be more likely to keep on top of things.

Having said that, I've only been ill from food once out here, which was after eating some oysters that must have been dodgy. That was arguably the worst 12 hours I've ever experienced.

Reminds me of a guy I used to work with who decided to pick his own oysters while on holiday in France.

Ready and available he picked a load, washed, cooked and shared them with the English person in the tent next to them.

morale: Make sure you know where the Oysters are in clean water, and where they have been feeding from nearby sewage pipes.

Mmmmmmmmm........................sewage oysters.

I got food poisoning twice, once in India and once in Laos, both times in the middle of nowhere. Other than that I've only ever had mild discomfort from poor hygiene, and I've eaten in a lot of places.

Someone I know went to India and ate everywhere without a problem, then got sick from a McDonald's on the last day.

It is indeed. But we're not talking about a shop in town employing 3 people are we? What's the annual turnover of Dixons CW? More than enough to employ a competent security team and (where I suspect the problem lies) ACT ON WHAT THEY TELL YOU. Nominal fines and "reputational damage" clearly aren't enough. A few high-profile 6-month sentences would go a long way.

What if they did?
(apologies if I missed the bit where it says they did)

Just saying for 6 month sentences you'd need to prove negligence rather than incompetent expertise.
