The stupid song you always hear at away games, along the lines of...
"Small town in (insert name of nearby town which is probably a football rival), your just a small town in (insert name...) etc
What the fuck is that? It doesn't even vaguely make sense. On Saturday for example, we had, "Small town in Grimsby, your just a small town in Grimsby..."etc
Am I missing something? Are British towns and cities designed on the 'Russian Doll' principal whereby you have a huge metropolis such as, in this case, Grimsby and contained within in that a smaller (and, we have to assume, inferior) smaller town - in this case Scunthorpe? Could there be an even smaller urban area within this bizarre megatropolis, like Cleethorpes? The mind boggles!
The song should really go, "Small town NEAR Grimsby, you're just a small town NEAR Grimsby..."etc But then that would be factually correct and therefore would not be hilarious I suppose.
Maybe that's where we should be going with football songs in the 21st Century - Factual correctness...
So for Crawley on Saturday we could have...
" Medium sized town and borough in West Sussex, 28 miles south of Charing Cross 18 miles north of Brighton and Hove, and 32 miles northeast of Chichester, covering an area of 17.36 square miles with a population of 106,597 at the time of the 2011 Census,
Your just a medium sized town and borough in West Sussex, 28 miles south of Charing Cross....etc"
Meh...needs a little bit of work but I could be on to something...
