I always thought they had to sell it to you at the price advertised, regardless of whether it was a mistake or not.

No, because essentially the exchange of goods is a voluntary contract between buyer and seller where both agree to the price. The seller therefore is perfectly entitled to refuse sale if they spot a mistake before money changes hands which would confirm a contract between both parties. There is no onus on a shopkeeper or otherwise to sell anything even if advertised. It's known as 'invitation to treat'.

My sister got sticthed up by a buyer for no apparant reason. They had a date of completion etc all ready to go. Luckily she got another buyer quickly. I hope yours works out as people can be utter cunts where house buying is concerned. Alot of the arseholes seem to be those who buy multiple properties to let out.

The house initially took about  3 months to sell and then it fell through for no reason, the estate agent managed to sell again with in 24 hours, and each time its fell through theyhave sold within a day or 2 which is great, just annoying. I've actually met the current buyer, whos an investor and assures me he wont mess us about.

Your scenario is a cast iron exemplar of why we should move to the Scottish conveyancing system.  It's so superior to ours that we should copy it straight away.  You do all of your checks up front.  You make an offer.  The seller accepts your offer, and a contract is then then established which is binding on both parties.  Pulling out of a deal like that at the 11th hour is pure nonsense, and should not be allowed.

'Black Friday'. Why the hell are we in this country referring to last Friday as that? We're not Americans and therefore Black Friday doesn't exist here. Isn't the term to do with the day after Thanksgiving as that's when the yanks start their Christmas Shopping 'spree' - assume as most have the day off?

Well said.

Agree Batch, if it's a Christmas sale then fair enough. But its pathetic of the media/marketing groups trying to latch onto the BF bandwagon. It just doesn't make sense to apply it over here. Blimey it's annoyed me morew than I'd thought.

And relax...

Yet another yankism that's taking root, like fucking trick or treating. Penny for the Guy seems to have totally disappeared.

The amount has already been adjusted on my Very account and when I rang back and spoke to yet another advisor, she said there was no way they'd adjust it back to the lower amount.  I've therefore cancelled, as I only bought them due to the bargain nature.  The kids will now get the Xbox 360, which is what they really want.

Still peeved with the whole situation and can't help but wonder how many people only bought them for the price and decided to keep hold of them at the higher price?

And agree with you about the whole Black Friday thing Jan.  Even more so after this incident.

I love a bit of madness, but not the same 2 songs every week. Not sure why it's become a ritual. Are the public performance licence royalties cheaper?

... and the rest of the music seemingly aimed at 15 year olds. Its something easily put right but it never is.
