This morning a supermarket checkout person asked me, how I'm doing? He also asked what I've been up to and how my day's going. Fuck you.

It seems to be becoming more frequent and it gets right on my tits. I came to buy shit, not talk vapid bollocks to a stranger who couldn't care less.

I work part time in check outs - to be fair you don't have to talk bollocks to people - as long as your polite and say hello etc... I can usually tell who wants to chat and who doesn't ... I don't think some of the younger lads have this sense of appropriateness yet though??

If JFW asked me how I was doing and if I was having a nice day I'd probably skeet in my trousers. Go figure.

You have just reminded me of a recent trip to London where, against my better judgement, got dragged in to the M&Ms Store on Leicester Square.  As I went up to purchase a grossly overpriced package of sweets, the assistant there asked me whether it was my first time in London.  Given that, until recently, I had been working in London, I calculated that this was something like my 1,800th visit to London, so replied no.  'Awesome', replied the assistant.

As I was trying to work out what was so awesome about having visited London on at least one previous occasion, he then asked me where I was from.  I told him I lived in Farnborough.  'Awesome', he replied again.  This really bothered me.  I like where I live, but have never really been aware of its awesomeness.  I was tempted to ask him to expand on what he believed to be so awesome about Farnborough.  Maybe it was the biannual Airshow?  Perhaps he was a monastery enthusiast (yes, there is one of those just up the road).  Or perhaps he was full of shit?  My money's on the latter.

Yeah...looks like it hasn't survived its encounter with the sun. Shame I was getting quite excited, just have to carry on with the memories of Hale-Bopp....as a kid I'd always wanted to see a comet, and Hale-Bopp did the job.

Wrong.  The airshow is the stuff of legend.

I remember the Hale-Bopp comet very well. I was surprised at how visible it was.

Another irritating comment from shop till staff is 'Did you find everything you wanted today', which seems to be asked quite frequently.  Well, I'm here paying, so clearly I found something I wanted.  On several occasions, I've not been able to get everything, because something was out of stock in my size.  On giving this as a response, I'm met with 'Oh that's a shame'. Utterly pointless conversation.

This is the shop of my worst nightmares. I took the family there last year and had to stand outside after a few minutes. Hateful place.

I'm far too polite for anyone to actually think they're annoying me though. I smile and play along. And despite my posts, I don't get that annoyed by it really, just irritated. I'd just rather not have to talk bollocks to a stranger, but I'd sooner do that than be rude and ruin their day.

I think certain people are more annoying than others. Some I like to talk to, some I'd rather push razors down my penis.

I remember halle-bopp. Was young at the time, but it did perk an interest in astrophysics that has yet to die completely. As far as Ison is concerned, we can't really work out if it survived its encounter until early December at the earliest.

Its certainly not survived in the 'comet of the century' form though.

I thought the 'comet of the century' style would only show up in December. Will have to look that up.

When I moved to London about 10 years ago, I rolled up at Victoria Coach Station with a couple of bags around mid-day. I fancied a coffee so strolled over to a Nero and placed my order, no problem. The young lady behind the counter then enquired, in a thick Eastern European accent as to which which country I came from! I replied Swindon but of course, she thought I said Sweden...
