I told my kids if they made loud noises or if they played up on the plane they would distract the pilots & the plane would crash. They were quiet for the 9 hour flight there & back.
*Applause* I wonder if airlines could be persuaded to make that a cabin announcement as part of the pre-flight safety chat?

Laugh now, but this is exactly how BA Baracus started. Why do you think he's called BA.

I'm halfway through a 6 and a half hour train journey and have two of the worst human beings ever sat directly behind me. I've never heard anyone eat so loudly.
To make it even better, the train is running on over 30 mins late and I have to make a connection for a train that takes 10 hours.
And I've got the shits.
Where on earth are you going that requires you to be on a train for 16 hours? Couldn't you have flown or was it too expensive?

I typed out an anecdote about a time I was on a train that got de-railed and was stuck in a carriage with a cute girl from Swansea and an old hippy bint who ate really loudly, but realised that it wasn't very funny.

North Norway. It's much cheaper than flying and I hate flying so it seemed like a good idea at the time. The train passed through Hell earlier.

Sonic - which route are you on? I travelled from Stockholm to Narvik some years ago, which took nearly 24 hours. (But now I think about it, the journey was almost entirely in Sweden, crossing into Norway only 30 mins or so before arriving in Narvik.) Just wondering if you're on any part of the same route. I loved that journey. Even remember looking forward to the return leg.

The route is Dovrebanen from Oslo to Trondheim and Nordlandsbanen from Trondheim to Bodø. The line to Narvik connects at one of the stations the train stoppped at.
It's 12 ºC and raining at the moment.

Weather aside, I'm very jealous. My two trips up that way were both a little further north (Tromso one year and Narvik/Lofoten Islands the next), but imagine it will be similar where you are. 24 hr daylight up there at the moment, I would guess. Walking out of a bar at 2am in to broad daylight is one of the strangest and disconcerting experiences I think I can remember. Where ever you're staying, I hope that they have a good set of black out blinds.
