Try re-scanning for channels, but unplug the aerial until the scan is about 40‰ complete and then plug it back in again and let the scan finish.

Emotionless robot? All joking aside you are coming across as a bit melty, are you sure?
Was just thinking the same. Either there's been a dramatic change around or the lack of emotions was exaggerated or an excuse?

I moved my NAS yesterday, to back it up, and while sitting at my desk 5 minutes ago, obviously not being used to the position of the relocated NAS, I move suddenly and knock it off my desk. Doh. It no longer works, it just kind of beeps. I'll have to take the drives out (which are in an array - joy!) to see if the data is OK. It's actually quite funny in a way, because if it's proper fucked, I no longer have to worry about the data!

Ouch. Much data?
There was 250GB-300GB or so used on the drive, but some of that's been backed up, so I don't know the exact damage. I'm not overly worried to be honest. I stopped using it months back because it was such a cantankerous piece of chinese shit, so any data lost, I'm not sure I'll miss. I've just got to buy a USB to IDE adapter and install Linux in a virtual machine to access the ext2 drives. At least I imagine I can do that. (I'm not even sure I can be bothered, I might just bin it.) It was a mirrored array, so perhaps one of the 2 drives will be OK, although if not, well, worse things happen at sea!

I'd always been a bit of a closed book but this hit me pretty hard. Shit happens eh.

It certainly does, but you've obviously learnt from it and know what went wrong. I hope you get the opportunity for another chance assuming that's what you want?
