Ah the joys of commuting, at least they open up first class down there, in my latter years TPE stopped doing that so standard would be absolutely rammed (my train into Manchester in the morning was reported at one stage as being the most overcrowded in the country) and 1st would be empty.

That bloke would not have lasted 5 mins up here, someone would have removed his bag and sat down whether he liked it or not!

Helping someone out during the era of covid lockdowns and going out my way to help do my bit for them.

It's a tough one this. I have become distanced from a few people over the last couple of years from people who will probably think i am a total cunt but it's taken me a long time to not be bothered by it. What i was finding is that they were only really talking to me when they were down in the dumps so to speak. I remember 2 people very clearly actually i tried to help often and would take calls at 2 3 4 in the morning who did not even text once when i was in a similar position so after years of thinking well i don't give to receive i thought fuck em. It's pointless getting stressed and worried over people who don't give a fuck

Yeah i understand your viewpoint (I've taken this stance myself) and  I can see that if a person has seemingly never had any historical relationship/friendship etc. But when you've genuinely helped someone out - with zero gain for yourself other than making sure that person is ok/sorted etc. Reciprocation and good memory seem like the bare minimum someone should do back at a later point - even if that is just being present.

It doesn't stress or worry me - it's just somewhat frustrating. I've probably had more help from total strangers, in varying proportions over the years than from some of the people we're supposed to consider a confidante or "go to guy"!

I do take an "oh well, fuck 'em" approach but I can't say it sits right with me.

Don't expect others to live up to your own expectations/standards. You will have times of disappointment for sure but be the better person and move on. I've done it a couple of times. I found those I chose to cut off blamed me. They're just incredibly selfish in reality.

Guy "laughing face reacts" to all of my posts. When I foolishly ask 'What's so funny mate?' (for a second get context that the topic might have been something to do with cancer or someone's pet dying).

To which they reply 'ur thikc as shit pal'.....obviously I can see where the limited scope of conversation is headed so I correctly don't reply...well other than with an ironic "laughing face react" emoji.
