Thanks.
Did your son play, or did you draw the line last week?
No we left it up to him and he was adamant he doesn't want to stay there. He trained with another team on Friday and the coach is sorting the transfer.

Having watched my nephew play over the last few years, the state of kids football doesn't appear to have improved at all in the 30 years since I was playing it. Poor coaching, too much focus on winning, the parents attitude and so on.
I wonder how many potential professional players are lost as a result of it and how many fat kids go on to become really fat kids due to losing interest as they never get a game. It should cater for kids of all levels of talent, giving them the path to become better or just some fun and exercise of a weekend.

I wonder how many potential professional players are lost as a result of it and how many fat kids go on to become really fat kids due to losing interest as they never get a game. Conversely, how many pro players get their start in grassroots as youngsters? Pretty much all of them. And more importantly, how many kids who never have any hope/aspirations of being pros get a chance to play regular sport they wouldn't otherwise do because of local kids football? And given the state of school sport these days, how many more fat kids would there be were if not for local kids' football? It should cater for kids of all levels of talent, giving them the path to become better or just some fun and exercise of a weekend. It certainly should, and the local N Wilts league does do pretty much that in my experience, watching my two play over the past few years. It's not perfect, as jo's experience highlights, but fortunately it's a strong league with a lot of teams and a diverse range so if a kid doesn't get on at one team, there's usually several more close by where they will.

My team as a kid had an A, B & C team, so you'd get to play on a Sunday whatever happened. The only downside to that was that you'd get the piss ripped out of you if you got picked for the C team, and it led to unhappy parents who thought their kids were a B or above. I remember my dad going apeshit because I was picked for the C team! I didn't care, I actually preferred it as it was a lot more fun to play with the worst of the bunch.
I don't watch any kids football (I think I'd get in trouble if I did!) but I used to watch my nephew, and it was ridiculous how seriously it was taken and also how the parents would react. My nephew was the best player on his team, and parents of the other team would encourage their kids to kick him and hurt him. One game he dared to complain about it and he was labelled a cry baby, etc... My sister took him off and took him home after a while.. it was fucking disgusting.

In both those points Tails you've nailed what is often the cause of most of the problems - not so much the kids or the coaches, but the parents. Even there though, I'd say I've seen an improvement just over the time I've been watching. There's very little nastiness from the sidelines and when it does happen, more willingness to confront it, both from other parents and coaches/clubs and indeed the N Wilts League. Not saying it doesn't happen, probably more so at the older age groups, which I don't really get to see, but it's certainly got better even over the last 5 years or so.

I've only seen issues with parents at one club over three seasons. And it was just a few parents , but fairly unsavoury.
Mostly parents encourage their kids, some go a little OTT but it's not got to the nasty stage yet, other than this one club .

Just received a text from my landlord asking me to remove the potentially dangerous hazard from my windowsill as it may fall onto people below.
The item in question is a small plant in a plastic pot. The windowsill overlooks the basement of my own flat and is not a public highway - in fact, to access it, you'd need to jump a locked gate and then head down the stairs which lead to my downstairs door only.
It's not that I mind moving it, it's the laughable pettiness of the whole thing.

The wrong thread to put this I guess, but having seen pictures of the F1 crash today, Bianchi is going to be one very lucky boy if he recovers ok. Crossed fingers etc...
Just seen the footage of the accident itself.... bloody horrible.

Those little bits of nail that are loose and on the edge between the nail and the skin of your finger. Hurts when you yank it out and annoys me.

Wasps Rugby, aka Franchise RFC. Rugby is less rooted in the community than football and clubs do move around more...but Coventry?!
