I've witnessed some daft incidents with kids football. Thankfully my lads first coach in local football was very good and my boy had two seasons with him before the town took him on. Other local clubs have some absolute morons as so called coaches though and they shouldn't be anywhere near kids football. Fa coaching badges are too easy to get and it shows.
When playing in summer tournaments for a local side my son was shoved over by a coach after checking a lad he accidently hurt in a tackle was ok.
Was blocked from taking a throw in by parents and the coach of Ferndale rodbourne in a final(they racially abused a team mate too along with other shocking behaviour, this went to a wilts fa hearing with the ref present and was proven)
Was verbally abused by parents of a london team trying to put him off(it worked as he was 10 and was crying after)
Had one lad told to follow him everywhere he went during a game(he even followed him during half time and never kicked the ball once) Ferndale rodbourne again in another tournament.
As my son played in a good side which won alot of tournaments the abuse was frequent. The better they are the worse it gets.
I've also seen the cheating refs and the flip of that those trying to be too honest, meaning they give more to the opposition.

The BT Sport advert for Conference football that states "it's never been harder to escape the fifth tier of English football"
This is literally untrue. It was 1 up for many years!

And before that there were several decades without automatic promotion and relegation at all when the usual practice was to re-elect the bottom club and it was next to impossible to break into the league. Actually movement between the conference and the league has probably never been easier.

Lot more better teams down there now, a lot of full time squads too so in that respect it is more dfficult to get out.

Which is clearly what they mean. But as lumps and Nemo say, in the respect of "it's never been harder to escape", it's palpable rubbish. Still, it's an advert for a sports programme, they've never been long on literal truth.

You're both right, I suppose. The Conference is a de facto League 3 now (or Division 5, in old money). Not a lot of difference in standard, resources or crowds etc. between League 2 and the Conference. Probably a bigger gap in standard between the Conference and the semi-pro regionalised leagues (Conference North & South) immediately below.

It's easier to get out of than it used to be (re-election, 1 up, etc), but it's more difficult to get back up quickly having been relegated than it used to be, because the gap is narrower and the teams down there are more competitive.

In the 66 years between 1920 and 1986 (when automatic relegation and promotion was introduced for the league) only 13 clubs failed in their re-election bids, and were replaced by new clubs.
So on average one club got promoted into the league every five years. With the current system in place we have two promotion spots a year. So it's about 10 times easier to get into the league now.
We've played in the bottom couple of divisions for over a decade. Have people not been noticed that suddenly there's a whole lot more longstanding non-league sides making the jump up to league status? Fleetwood, Burton, Stevenage, Dagenham and Redbridge, and Crawley have all made it into the league for the first time over the last few years.
And at the same time it's easier to get back into the league after relegation. Of those 13 clubs that failed to get re-elected during that 66 year period up to 1986 12 have never played league football again. Now clubs like Oxford, Hereford, Stockport, Mansfield and Torquay seem to move in and out of the league fairly regularly.
