No good if they don't wanna stay Leefer. The lure of these massive clubs cannot be ignored. On the plus side by at least having the links with the clubs it gives us a better chance with players like ferry darby cuthbert and of course ward.Saves a bit on transfer fee's aswell

All the young player having their heard turned by the big clubs need to take a look at Adam Johnson.

Got his education at Middlesborogh, got a decent amount of first team games before he moved on.

Now playing most weeks for Man City. If you're good enough it will happen for you.

No need to rush into being a small fish in a big pond.

Agree with both of you but until we are financially in a position to keep hold of these lads we will have to keep plodding along. We have made a start by not accepting silly little bids any more though i suppose

At his age now and possible not even on a pro contract Henshalls not exactly going to net us much money.

An 19 year old pro with 100+ leagues under his belt would do.

This is all somehow dead funny.  A bit like 'win a chance to be the queen' for a year, but more possible. do we have a get out clause if the winner is rubbish?

It is though an amazing thing to be part of.  Just like loads of clubs round the country must have been going 'why didn't we think of that' when we signed the deal with four-four-two, they must be thinking the same now.   It's outrageous, but great publicity.
Still find it a bit hard to believe that Wilson likes the idea, but I guess they sold it to him.

Can't wait to see how this develops.

As for young players who haven't made it yet heading off to bigger clubs, think they are wrong and most examples prove that.  But you can't stop them if that's what they want to do.

If it's good enough for Inter, it's good enough for us.

Whats the point in finding young talent....if they fuck off at the first opportunity ala Henshall.

has henshall gone then?
anyway if he has we'll be compensated. the youth system at clubs is to either bring lads through, or sell them.
that's the way it is and until we are big enough to poach lads cheaply,we'll be one of the clubs losing lads to bigger clubs.

I'd imagine there's zero risk to the club in this and expect Samsung to be footing the cost of the search and then the playing contract.

There's also the chance it could unearth more than one 'gem'....  Yes the winner gets the guaranteed contract for a year but there maybe others there worth adding to the squad that would have otherwise slipped through the net - it's not only the winners of X factor and BGT that go on to be 'successful' - they same applies here - I wonder they'll get the finalists to sign an exclusivity contract so that STFC get first option?!
