so all airports closed and the cloud is suppossed to be heading south, beautiful blue skys here whats swindon like? Had one of these once in mexico was very odd everything was covered in an inch of dust.

I think the ash/debris is mainly in the upper atmosphere and, therefore, not visible at ground level.

It's not visible from the ground, it's in the upper atmosphere i.e. the bit of sky that the planes fly in.

I think that perhaps you misunderstood, their website says quite the opposite. But the Health Protection Agency said the ash did not pose a significant risk to public health because of its high altitude. Brian Flynn, assistant head of operations of its central flow management unit, told the BBC: "As it moves toward the Netherlands and Belgium it will dissipate and lose intensity, like any weather phenomenon.
