Everyones got there opinions.....mine is the England football captain should have some moral fibre...hes cheated and lied....not a hangable offence of course..a great footballer yes but lets face it football should be doing all it can to clean up its image at present......i will have a tad more respect for him if he does the honourable thing................BARRY..saying oh it wasnt my family so it dosnt matter is pants!!......but ime not angry at you either,just my point of view.

At the end of the day my opinion is that he can do what he likes in his private life. If you're married and been shagging a bird from your office for example would you be sacked? Probably not as you are not breaching company policy etc. OK it's morally wrong to do it and he is a dick for cheating but it clearly didn't affect his performance this weekend so why should he be stripped of the captaincy?

Personally I don't see what the big hoo-ha is? Ok the guy is a knob and morally it is wrong but footballing wise he has done nothing to lose the England Captancy. You should be judged for what you do on the pitch not off it. I don't condone who it is but as mentioned above if you were sleeping with a co-workers girlfriend should you be demoted? You have done nothing wrong at work. I guess the only thing is people would look up to Terry as a role model fair enough but I wouldn't want Gerrard, Ferdinand or Lampard (Gerrard and Lampard should be no where near the England team anyway given the fact they work hard for their team and do bugger all for England.

I completely disagree.  He's the Captain.  Along with Capello, he needs to hold the dressing room together and has to know that each and every one of his players will follow his lead without question.  I don't think he'll be able to do that any more.

Where your analogy starts to fall down is that if I slept with a work colleague, I wouldn't have my picture splashed across the front of just about every national tabloid for the next week.  My private life wouldn't be dissected by the gutter press and I wouldn't have papparazzi parked outside my house.  John Terry's life now resembles a pantomime.  Nothing is off limits...and I don't think he'll be able to carry on as Captain while things are like that.

I think Archbishop John Sentanu should be England captain. As the Archbishop of York, he's the morally upright, media-friendly figure that English football have been looking for.

Despite the fact that he's 60 years old and never played football, I'd pencil him for a holding role in central midfield, allowing Lampard to break forward and support Rooney. We may have to drop Barry or Gerrard to accommodate him in this role.

The only problem I can foresee is that he's also got to be Prime Minister, all of the Cabinet, the England Cricket captain, presenter of Strictly Come Dancing and Governor of the Bank of England.

If we want people in all of these roles to be morally unimpeachable, he's going to have to juggle his calendar.

I think the Irish example shows you should perhaps be more wary in holding up members of the clergy as upstanding moral characters!
