1987 programe v Brum....cant believe how dire some of the crowd averages were for the so called big clubs,Div 2 now the championship, after 8 matches the table was as follows
Barnsley-7,202 Palace-7,355 Plymouth-11,654 Bradford-9,715 Hull-6,689 Swindon-9,118 Blackburn-6,171 Ipswich-12,297 Leeds-20,055 Stoke-9,243 Reading-5.755 Bournemouth-7,203 Millwall-6,387 M,boro-10,476 Birmingham-9,477 Man City-20,209 Aston Villa-19,606 Shrewsbury an unbelievable 3,377 Oldham-10,462 Sheff Utd-9,461 West Brom-8,312 Leicester-8,771 Huddersfield-5,305.
Football was really in the mire at this time for some clubs obviously, for the record the teams that day,
Digby Hockaday King Kamara Parkin Calderwood Bamber O,Regan Quinn Foley Barnard...White and Henry as subs.
Tony Godden Brian Roberts Julian Dicks Adrian Biro Vince Overson John Trewick Des Bremner Andy Kennedy Steve Whitton Tony Reece Steve Wigley....Gary Childs and Ian Handysides as subs.
Town had just beaten M,boro 3-2 away......not sure how this one turned out.

A lot of clubs that think they're "massive" have rubbish figures on that list... Always worth reminding the likes of Villa, just 5 years after winning the European Cup that many of their fans ditched them.

That was one of my favourite trips ever with Town. Barny got 2 I think. Lucky to get out alive - Mboro was a fucking dangerous place to go those days particularly on a minibus. Due to a crash in the minibus we got home about 2pm on the Sunday.

I went to that also, must have got lucky we were back in newbury by 9.30. I can remember another time there when smoke was drifting over the away stand and the tannoy said, "would the owners of reg plates etc etc, go to your cars they are on fire!)

Reading 5,755 surely that was a above average gate in those days for the plastic side. I'm sure all of their current supporters were there, well at least watching teletext.

As we all know, 12000 of their current regulars were going back then. They're down to 15,000ish attendances, down approx 10,000ish from the Premier League. They'll be back to the 5000 hardcore again soon enough ...and there isn't an in-house Reading fan on here to tell me otherwise!

Probably was Dell but remember it was in the second tier and away fans probably swelled it up abit.
