I applaud the signing for no other reason than Cuthbert is an ace name  Smiley

Also its nice to be signing players now rather than with a couple of weeks before the season starts.

A rock solid defence.

I can see Ifil and/or Aljofree being loaned out.

That is tempting the fates Ralphy...what looks good on paper, doesn't always work out that way.  I'm beginning to wonder if Wilson is going to fit in his better players and overcom the shortage of strikers by playing some crazy 3 at the back 1 up front system.

Has anyone encouraged us to sign Pugh, Pugh, Barney McGrew, Dibble and Grub yet?

I think it's as simple as League 1 being a better shop window than the Scottish Premier.  If you're a Premiership scout, Swindon is a damned sight easier than Paisley to get to on a Tuesday evening.

Based on attendances and turn over, we're bigger than 2 or 3 of the SPL teams if not more. Plus if you take away Celtic and Rangers you're pretty much left with a league equivalent to League 1. To put it simply, Scottish football is shit.

Even Celtic and Rangers would be average Premier League teams here. Scottish football is super shit.

To be fair, if Celtic and Rangers did join the League, they'd be mediocre to begin with but they have the support base to out-earn and outspend every team outside the top four and Manchester City when given the Premiership TV money in addition.

Well I happen to have an encyclopedic knowledge of Celtic reserves and St Mirren (it's going to be my specialist subject on the next series of Mastermind) and I can tell you this is a FANTASTIC signing.

We are getting the ball rolling now. Im sure some of our players will be looking at the standard of the new additions and saying maybe we have a chance this year? The squad lost all belief after the Leeds home game last season, it vanished, and we got some back just in time at the end of the season. Obviously we need to be much better than we were last season, but we need to really believe it too.

As Yeovil says, shouldnt really be wanking about players weve never seen before.

But its brilliant to sign a player at this age with that record of international call ups. Its pretty unprecidented in our history. We dont sign U21 international players just comming into the peak of their careers. Cant wait to see him play. One thing I would say is that he needs to concentrate on being a full back, certainly for this season.

Strikers please!

Shouldn't really be wanking about players at all - isn't it even more worrying once you've seen them? Eeeuuuggghhh

I have to agree - I cannot condone wanking over players whether they be known or unknown.

Anywhoo..I saw this on a St Mirren forum and they seem pretty pissed off that they didn't sign him..some pretty ill-informed comments relating to STFC but that's to be expected I suppose..

It always amuses me when people say "why's he joined them? They were shit last season..."

While this is true, doesn't the fact that we're signing players of such potential suggesting that we're trying to improve?
